Windows Update malfunction?

Friday 8/15: I've determined it's not my PC as I was able to connect to Windows Update via Help & Support last evening around 10:30 p.m. This morning I can't connect in so they are probably still getting heavy traffic.

Nancy where in the process of updating windowsupdate v4 with some v5 features, some areas may receive that msg, please be sure that all proxies servers being used on your system are off when using windowsupdate from this point on, as of tonight you shouldnt have anymore problems..

The Windows Update site has been shutdown by Microsoft, so the page will not be able to load anymore in the future. Please see the quote below from the Seattle Time Newspaper:


Microsoft permanently shut down a Web site critical to an attack expected to start today by the so-called "Blaster" worm that infected computers worldwide this week.
The company disabled the Web site www.windowsupdate.com late Thursday night. The worm had programmed infected computers to flood the site with traffic starting today in a denial-of-service attack aimed at disrupting Microsoft's operations.

This site will no longer display.

It should be added that although that site was shut down, there is still an active Windows Update site.

It was announced last night that although this appeared to be the intention of the "Blaster" creator, he apparently programmed the wrong URL into the program, so there don't seem to be any problems except for those being experienced by people whose computers were infected.

Out of curiosity, I just tried Windows Update from Help & Support and see this new message:

I thought I had read in the newspaper that Microsoft was closing that site down. I may be wrong but the article said that Microsoft would advise when a new address is available.
