Same here but a few nights ago I was working late and some joker was trying to get in and came at me three times in the space of 90 minutes. I traced them and they were an advertising mob. I didn't spot it until I had a quick look at shutdown because I have my Taskbar on Auto Hide.
whats wrong with Kerio????????????
:)
I am using Sygate Personal Firewall 5.0, FREE and works great for me. Rate it 4 star +
ZA Pro I paid for and never received any support when needed. Wouldn't use ZA again if you paid me for it.
I recommend.

The Product Support Forums are helpful too.
OK, to jump into this topic with questions of my own....
Was the ZA dial out issue the only reason users left ZA?
I also have Norton Firewall 2002 (free after rebate), but have not tried it..... is it worth messing with?
Thanks,
V
I have limited experience with other FW, mainly a first look and some setup steps taken on a networked laptop.
ZA (v2.6) ran on my previous dial-up (Prodigy/SBC) and now on cable (ATT) connection, with highest security settings, without the slightest problems.
The ease of setup and detailed program modification (access settings, server Y/N) are a big plus IMO.
The resources used are low, and for most modern systems, shouldn't be an issue IMO.
I probed ZA with many online security tests and always achieved perfect security when enabled.
One note for 'powerusers': occasionally go into the programs section of ZA and delete the entries. You will realize, that some entries are on-top of each other, e.g. Media Player, IE etc.. Haven't quite figured out all consequences, but certainly helps to see certain update influences.
Cheers KGG

As K G G says,,ZA's additions and changes to it's GUI just added bloat and confusion imo. And yes,i've tried them all. With 2.6, when you uninstall then re-install a program, ZA picks it up as a new prog and makes a new entry in the program list. If you hover your pointer over them, they will be dated and you can remove the old one by right clicking and choose remove. Another reason i like ZA 2.6 is it's ability to stop pings from "any" source. I use WinMX to dn/load ol' music and the opennap servers in conjunction. Opennap is not the most secure place to be. When i first start it up, i will get pinged from an IP address 10 to 20 times in the first few minutes. Even tho' i have a router with NAT and have allowed WinMX through the router and ZA "both" ways, Zone Alarm always catches these pings and blocks them. I've tried other firewalls and had reactions from not even recognizing the source to completely freezing my PC when they "did" block the intrusion attempts. So,,as i said before, i'll stick with 2.6 'til the proverbial pigs begin to fly! :D

Changed from ZA to Kerio about 6 months ago and so far so good, very easy to configure too.
But each to their own..........I would never buy a Ford.

Ummm..wrong. I only wanted a few opinions on firewalls for when my BI PC protection expires. I had heard that ZA wasn't as great as it used to be, and that was the firewall I was going to use before hearing that. I saw the opinions, and decided to try Sygate when the time comes.
Anyway, I thought that's what these forums were for... computer help and opinions from knowledgable people.
hmmm well I was wondering where you went, all to many times these threads go unanswered. :)
you should also add: people with "a sense of humor".
btw is ZA is always as good as it has been the freeware version that is.

I have a great sense of humor! *What did the ghost say to the Bee?* BOO BEE! :P
LOL..OK...with all due seriousness, which version of ZA should I look into when the time comes? For the free edition, I think I have heard that 2.6 is the best? Or is it 3.7?
version 2.6.362 for both, ZA and True Vector service
