other things that have gone wrong with the computer : the modem keeps disconnecting and the cdrom refused to play a disc and one said out of memory to play another but i got that one to play ,, i wonder if the motherboard is going or the power supply is too low , i think its 200 watts

i took the sound card out and put it in the very slow 150 mhz computer and i can now hear bbc and stuff pretty good , im just too tired to deal with the other computer and because the modem problem , but thanks anyway ,

Still, from the symptoms it looks like Windows itself is just having trouble-- a good format/install may work wonders for it. If nothing else, just reinstalling Windows "on top of itself" may help.
a put in a different hardrive and put on windows 95 new and now i dont get memory error and real player plays but i have no sound because i think card is dead or is it ? it worked sorta in other computer .
modem didnt disconnect me although it is a differnet external
and cd rom at least played
i wouldnt have thought it but id say the harddrive was the problem
i guess ill have to buy a soundcard or use the one i at first had in it.

With the new hard drive came the new OS you loaded as well so you can't say the hard drive was the problem for sure yet since the virgin istallation of 95 may have corrected whatever probs you were having. You could always reinstall the OS on the original drive and see what that does.
As far as the sound card goes, since you seem to have lots of spares to switch around replace it with the other one to see what happens before you spend money... have you installed the proper drivers for the sound card or used Win's generic ones?
i just windows put on the drivers and all i have is old sound cards isa i think. i have a swedish version of windows 95 plus others ,, it says the sound card is in there
The speakers may simply be plugged into the wrong jack, or the volume controls are turned down, etc.
If Device Manager says the card is there and working properly, and the Multimedia Control Panel lists your card, then it probably is just fine. Recheck your connections.
ok i changed the hole for speaker plugg and the computer works ,, the only thing still a little weird is i couldnt get a thing to install on computer some thing from que books
my a is a big 5 and 1/4 and first time i used dos 5 then upgraded to win 95
whatever -now it basically works .. thanks
