1 = obvious, the drive must be connected
2 = you have to run in real mode DOS

3 = you coulda done that in windows...
best to get it in a folder near root
make folder called C:\vupp (or somthing) and copy both files into it

4 = in real mode DOS, you change to that folder you made and copied them two files into
and since you may be at C:\windows\command\>_
or perhaps even A:\>_
here you go...

cd\
cd vupp

dir (it helps when you see the files listed...)

and then... (I am using the names found in post)

vup99l x021.hex

the wildcards was used because the writer of the readme does not know what file you will eventally have to use,

the name of executable ( vup99L ) is the command, and the wildcards must actually match the name of firmware file you downloaded

Somehow the text in my previous message is not the same as what I typed. for instance the ampersand turned into a copyright symbol and the second copy command and destination s never materialized.

You are right that the command you indicated would return an error message. It will return an error message in NT also. That is because the ampersand is being used improperly.

please try:

copy <sourcefile> <destination>&copy <sourcefile2> <destination>

** note that use of the ampersand allows the processing of multiple COMMANDS on a single command line.

Did you try it that way?

I would really like to know, because as I stated previously I do not have access to any version of Win 9X but I have been told that used properly the ampersand works in Win98 just as it has in every version of NT since 3.1

PS (copy /? will provide syntax and most switches but it will not indicate conditional symbols.)

I really don't need all the references to DOS 6 as I still have DOS 6.22 (including the Help.hlp and help.com files) on all my boxes for various reasons.

All I needed was specific confirmation pro or con about the use of the ampersand in Win 9X which your ME screenshot provided quite nicely. (I only needed that confirmation because, as I stated, I had been informed by someone somewhere along the line that Win 98 and newer did support it and had no way to verify for myself.)

With copy being an internal command, it is too bad that command.com wasn't updated for DOS 7.X as they (conditional symbols) always worked quite nicely in both the 32 bit command processor CMD.EXE in NT and in the 16 bit interpreter in the DOS subsystem (command.com).
