Slow Typing In Replies To Posts

Interstingly I tried disabling pictures, sounds, animations and videos and whilst the screen looked total junk with little X everywhere, the MacroMedia Flash thing still appeared - arggggh.

I have actually noticed that it slows down everything not just typing.

I was trying to look at my favourites list and when that d**n thing started it's animation my PC pretty much froze.

If it appears, I usually use my back button and then reselect whatever option I chose to get back, hoping that I will get a different ad.

Agnitum's free Outpost firewall does a good job of blocking ads (as well as being an excellent firewall). I'm on 56k and have not encountered this problem. Instead of seeing advertisements I see a small [AD] in its place. :)

Really none of us should have to take evasive action to enable smooth running of this forum. I know it's not the forum software that's causing the problem - but web developers are supposed to take into account the effect of their animations on the overall smooth running of the page in which it appears. At the end of the day poor advert design has caused their advertising to be blocked by people who would otherwise tolerate the appearance of well made banners! Their loss - not ours?

Perhaps there will be vacancies for 'good' web designers at the company in question?

Wow! I was finally getting around to posting about this very problem in this Forum. I guess I'm too late. Noticed it the first time the ad appeared. Figured it was just my slow PC, and never suspected so many people would be seeing the same thing.

Buffalo--Interesting, but, while I do get the slow typing problem from time to time, it is only on VirtualDr and I have IE6. So I suspect your fix is not the answer to what I experience.

Might not be the solution for you, but trying the MS fixes only takes a couple of minutes. Who knows, stranger things have happened.

Tried the 'solution' and it has made no difference.

BTW the article doesn't mention WinNT and the PSTORES.EXE file is located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32

I use Win98.
The article doesn't mention NT.
The Pstores.exe file on my PC is located in C:\Windows\System.
Thanks for trying it. Sorry it didn't help. Maybe it is the 'ad' that is the problem, just like you suspected.

I'm using WinNT at work and the pstores.exe is located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32.

Strangely, I notice during this type that the VoiceXML ad at the top of the page is not having an adverse affect. So it must only be when it is at the side !!

I thought I was alone! It happens to me pretty often, about 3x a week. I am glad to hear that other people have this problem.

I am on a dial-up connection and it happens to me too. I was trying to type an email while viewing a vdr page and the typing would freeze every time the animation repeated. I tried the thing with blocking repeat animations with Norton Personal Firewall, and it made no difference.

Glad it isn't just me. I am also on dial up, on two different machines. I use an ad zapper so I don't believe that is the problem (since this is the only site I have this happen on. (I subscribe to four). What I do find is if I hit the F5 (Refresh Key) after a few seconds all returns to normal.
