The only thing I am certain of at the moment, is that it's a Monorail 6200 series, 400 megahertz Intel Celeron. The NEC FR520 1.0 info came from Belarc..the rest from SiSoft Sandra. If you have a more exact method to getting this info..please tell me?

Can find very little information. What I've found indicates it can support a 100mhz front side bus setting, and up to an 8.5 multiplier. However, I can find nothing on supported (core) voltages. The processor in there now (400) uses 2.0 volts. Once you get above 533 mhz in the Celeron line you're in to the Coppermines. These require voltages in the 1.65-1.75 range. Don't know if your board can be set to supply these lower voltages. In addition, none of this says where the cutoff is for the bios in terms of being able to handle/recognize faster processors and/or coppermine type processors.

So in the best (but probably unlikely) case at this point, you might be able to go up to 850mhz. In the worser case, you would max out at 533mhz.

Like I said, not sure what the FR520 stuff is about. The FR520 is a socket 7 board, which your's isn't. In cross referencing some stuff the board seems to fit the description of the GVC IN620 (also made under the name BCM IN620). I found most of the above info looking for BCM IN620 references. Maybe someone else can dig up something more.

The view from the mountain lends itself to conclude that you would probably be better off with a new build (or a retail system--Dell, etc.). It appears that any gains CPU-wise would be somewhat minimal and still have you a couple of years "behind" compared with current CPU speeds (again, a matter of perception; some folks are perfectly content with similar systems as yours).

Oh....and DrMDJ please don't spend another minute on this... you've been wonderful. I've gone into research hell over here..and it appears that Monorail doesn't even make computers anymore! They've partnered with some OEM outfit it would seem.
