Just noticed that if you view someones profile it no longer shows you the last thread they posted to and the date.
That was kind of hany to find out if someone had been here lately or not ??

usil and DrMDJ: I'm with you. I won't be here much longer if it stays this way.
Add that it is not just the squashed width, but that the ads are different widths and the width of the forum content keeps changing. Sorry, this is just too jarring and unpleasant.
It's annoying for sure, but enough to make you leave the boards ??
I notice that another popular site doesn't have this problem
http://cybertechhelp.com/forums/index.php
http://forums.techguy.org/
incidentally the last site had 1272 active users on board 131 members and the rest guests.
In fact neither of them appear to have advertising ?
Just thought I'd say that as much as I like these boards, I WILL leave if that right column doesn't go away.
Yes, it's THAT annoying. I won't be back until it's gone. There are other places that I can read far more easily.
Not all at once, or in any kind of snit, or as a form of retaliation, no.Quote:

What happened with the other forum that did a similar format is that I found it so jarring that I visited the forum less and less and eventually dropped out altogether. Took maybe a month or six weeks.
I'm not egotistical enough to think that my threatening to leave would constitute any real threat to this forum.
I'm not trying to make any threats or anything either... I'd leave becuase I can't read anything without going crazy.
I'm sorry, but quite frankly, whoever came up with that design... well, I can't say anything nice, so carry on :p
Nix, I cannot speak for http://forums.techguy.org/ but I can tell you that http://cybertechhelp.com/forums/index.php is privately owned by a guy who really cares about helping people.
I asked him once why he spent his own money to keep the site online and I was humbled by David's reply. "I believe in information trading for the greater good. Meaning that those with knowledge in an area pass it on to another so that they in turn help someone else. All for free."
I fixed it. I hadn't realised that I did it myself. Through desperation in trying to get rid of the advertisement on the top right, I added VDr to Adblock on FF to see if it would work. Unfortunately, it did not work, and I completely forgot that I had done it. You reminded me JP, thanks.Quote:

You know the feeling when you leave the house and you have that terrible feeling that you forgot something important but can't remember what, and its driving you nuts? Thats the feeling I have here. Its lingering in the back of my mind all the time. I am not upset at someone specific, so I am not storming out. But I know that I won't be able to tolerate this. Thats just me, maybe I am screwed up.
Gosh, usil, I dunno what to say. Any one else like to comment on the da vinci code ? (if you like, you can post the dead sea scrolls usil :D )Quote:

Before this gets taken as support for the new layout ;) I liked the ad at the top better.
That said, if we must have the ad on the right column, can we at least get narrow ads only? discussions.hardwarecentral.com has the side column ad, but it's always one of the really narrow ones. It's bearable at 800x600 and hardly noticeable at 1024x768. I could live with that far more easily than with the fat ads on the side.
*sigh*
Ooops, sorry TuttleQuote:

AnnMarie, I haven't read the Da Vinci Code, so I have no idea what you ar talking about. Care to explain?
Ok on the main index page besides the Servers forum, the last post was by BJ saying it's not a postable forum etc.
If however you follow the jump feature to get to that forum it doesn't even display that thread and says nothing has been posted in the last 30 days so you can't even see BJs thread ??Quote:
