It just seems to me that while users can each possibly find ways of offsetting the undesirable effects of what they are complaining about by adjusting resolutions, using add blockers, switching browsers, etc that this should not need to be the default case.
Amen. I don't mind seeing an ad on a main page, but when I get down to the business of reading posts, I don't need a semi-truck blocking my path and keep changing lanes when I do (now I'm waxing metaphorically).
Let me put it more bluntly: I am not in the least interested with an advertiser and his product that screws up my view of a site (ads that are too large, "floaters" that block my view, popups, etc.). It is intrusive and not commensurate with the purpose of the site. The advertiser is sponsoring the site, not the other way around.
good, probably my ad-blocker in IE helping me also... it's built into the DogPile toolbar, but probably the google toolbar or equivalent would work also...
It still bears discussion however... I'd hate to think I'd HAVE to run an ad-blocker just to get my VD pages to format correctly...
I agree with the last 3 posts. There are many instances when I am not at home and will visit VDr on someone else's computer using IE. I would not want to be in this situation. Ever.
When doing a search, why can't I write the username I am looking for and a key word at the same time? This used to be possible.
EDIT: There seems to be a general problem with the search. Try searching for the word computer. You will get all of todays posts that have the word computer, and then it jumps to 12-13-2004. :confused:
By tonight sometime the search will be working fine. The the entire DB has to be indexed after the upgrade. Takes the better part of a day to do, and I started it around 5 am NYC time, this morn.
I'm late in posting but wanted to say "Great Job" on the changes thus far. The empty 1/3 right side of the screen is a tad annoying but it's okay. I also love the new CP.
Kudos to all staff and members who make a difference in being here and doing what they do. Keep it up, VDR!
P.S. On the main page, the "Never" ones - IT Management and Java, i.e. - will they 'never' be actual threads or has nobody ever posted there, yet? Just curious as to what "Never" meant.

Just read most of this thread with that big white space staring me in the face ... and now I have a throbbing headache. Not sure how much I'll be hanging out here in the days to come. I don't think we should be expected to adjust res or switch browsers or magnify the screen ... just to do a little reading. I respect the need for adverts ... but this is just painful.
Yes!!!....pages have slowed down for me in both IE and FFox. :(
