Mosaic, Did that too. Tried the brand new floppy drive in the Old machine and it's not running in the OLD machine. CDROM still screwed too...I can't get it to work there. So I just put it back in the new machine.
WHY can't you just go BUY the idiotic BOOT DISK???
-
Welllllllll, ya can't blame a gal for trying. Personally, I thought that was an excellent deal.
I'm going into shutdown. Time for a nap. Later tater
-
Ok...you say that disk brought up the A: prompt, right? Did you type: fdisk (after that prompt?). Try it. It might bring up the program. HOWEVER, if the program that comes up does NOT eventually say "Would you like to enable large disk support"--then it's the wrong one. Just hit Escape and power down. Post back with results (as if I had to say...)
-
Ditto--Try Mosaic's idea also. On the boot, you should get the choice to enable CD-ROM suport or no (choose NO). Then you'll type: fdisk (after the A: prompt), then it'll ask you if you want large disk support. If you don't get any of those messages, then what you got there is a 95 boot disk--won't "work" right. If you are getting those msgs, then you're in business.

Texas Angel
Good evening and welcome aboard.
QOH
When you unzipped the bootdisk, did you try unzipping to a floopy and not to a folder.?

Train: It was established on the Win 98 forum a long time ago that one "floopy" equals 200 floppies. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ But you may be right on the zipping/unzipping---nothing like having a stuck zipper....

QOH: Take that boot disk back to the shop and have him make you 200 copies--put them in several safety deposit boxes in different banks--I don't wanna go through this again.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
FOLLOW THOSE FDISK/FORMAT INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER--- https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Greengoose1: Are you there? We're gonna have to start a new thread here--this one's taking too long to refresh..... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

F disked went fine, got out and rebooted, went back to without CD support but when I type format it says bad command or file name. I typed
format c: /s
Right? I tried a couple times and same message.
-
Make sure you are putting the space in between "c:" and the "/s"--check your spelling of "format" Are you at the A: prompt? Take the disk out and reinsert a couple of times, then try again. If this ain't working, then either the disk is bad, the dirve, or the cable or all or a combination of them. (I think I'm going nutzo here...)
-
Go back to fdisk and choose the option to view the partitions. If it says you don't have any, then you partitioned incorrectly.
Do you have that fdisk/format sheet with you?
-
Checked the spelling and the spaces. Surely this disk is not bad. Cable is the one that came with the motherboard. I rechecked all the connections when I put the floppy drive back in from trying it in the OLD earlier. Just now saw your post about trying the 95 disk we made from T.A.'s computer using my CD.
Should I try that disk?
