Operation Delta 25
We now begin Operation Delta 25. In Operation Delta 24, over clocking continued and then gravitated to cooling. Bistro and Train are fan moding and the Queen of Hearts continues to be in the middle of everything and is spilting hairs on a number of subjects. Not only is she modding her new computer but her house also, but that would be going off topic. Let's join in the action now and remember questions/comments are always welcome.
Click here for Operation Delta 24.

Ok I'll post it here too.
QOH
Despersperation is right. Probably BLOOD
That was a little far with the wire trick.
For the math formula to convert C to F.
Temperature C times 9 divide by 5 = first answer
first answer plus 32 = degrees F
by the way -40C equals -40F and is the only place they match.

Thanks for heads up on red X Train on email. Computer locked up, just got it back up, and after checking everything - don't know what happened - yet. I have had better days but not many with as many "opportunities" as TODAY.

Morning All, I will try that tip Train. Thanks.

QoH: Not sure if you really got your previous question answered concerning the system power. Your power supply is actually a step-down transformer. Steps down 110 to 12 and 5 volts. That's why that weird dude could install a 12v automotive cigarette lighter....don't know why--bad idea to smoke around a computer---gums it up; especially the lens on a CD.
-
Then if some little gizmo is less than 5 Volts it would burn it up or else would need a resistor ?
I have "discovered"... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ a digital temp guage while digging around in the shop. It is for A/C but has two probes. Also two switches with different positions. It reads C and F on either and also has Off/On. (9 Volt battery) Single display but changes back and forth with one of the switches.
One probe would need to be skinny and flat (like the one that came with the Motherboard---thermal sensor) to fit in the fins of the heat sink. Can I take one of the larger probes off and add one of those little flat kind (Radio Shack?)
It's very small and would fit behind the front cover (with a little modding) very easily without using one of the bays.

-
Might work with a little tooling around. Go for it. Not sure about removing/replacing the probe. Possible a new probe may not work with that particular unit.
Don't go destroying...er...modding the front panel with first checking around for a replacement. The only modding I did was enlarging the already existing air holes in the front.

Oh ye of little faith !
Bistro, you should know me better than that by now !...I'm not doin' anything just yet. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I'm still contemplating. I called Radio Shack and described what I needed to them. They could get something but he said it may not work. I hate to start cuttin' on it (the thermometer), or the front of the case, not knowing for sure.
I also see there is a program to put those temps on the Desktop so I wouldn't have to keep shutting down to look in the BIOS. Motherboard Monitor. Do you know if it works ? If it did, wouldn't that be even more accurate than the digital probe just being close to the processor ?
Could I use that temp sensor that came with the motherboard just plugged in and left hanging for the inside case temp ?
-
Motherboard Monitor is pretty good---accurate to +,-3. Recommend that. The only reason i put that dual gauge on mine is because.....it looks so darn "Star Trekky".... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/If I'm gonna be cuttin' holes, it's gonna be for sumpthin' purdy ! Like dragonflies or hummin' birds. Not for utilities.
....still workin' on that Window https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Wait'll you see this. You'll be amazed and astonished. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

QOH
Do not limit yourself to the shack of the radio https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Asking at Office depot yeilded a answer of OH NO we sold the last one a hour ago.
Known her for years, and was she . . . .
I knew the probe would not fit between the fins, so was a clip , slightly modified, to hold it firmly to the outside fin.
Also, you can look at Air conditioning parts suppliers, they carry things like that.
So, look around.
Bistro, now to find a price. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ nice idea in a way.

I will Train. It's a nice little thermometer. -50F to 300F
and -45C to 150C. Nice that it switches between the two probes on one display. I won't give up just yet. I might look into that Motherboard Monitor program and see if it is what I want. If I can make the probe do what it's supposed to uninstalled I might attempt it. Still contemplating, meditating and praying. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
AH HAH, she is putting a window into the side of her com putt er. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
May go that route as the digital probe is part of my multimeter. And I need it for other things. Now, do I buy a new one or take the one out of the van. Still working without a battery change for 3 years.

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Yep!
Found one of these right next to the one I confiscated...er..I mean discovered yesterday, too. hmmm ...have to keep the side off all the time to use it. I tested it out. It's a laser. Pretty cool. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
OOORRRR! I could make it go right thru the clear part on the glass of the Window !
Wonder if he'll notice it's missing ? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Took the camera back to my co-worker and he tried it on his system--worked, but he just sent me an example of a close-up shot of his case like what I wanted to do---lousy, lousy focus. Oh well.....May be I'll just take some regular photos and scan them in---we'll see.

From your experience , which is cooler
the factory pad or the silocone [sp] for the cpu cooler??

I'm thinkin' I'll need a leather holster for that laser temp gun... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Might need to make a little visit to the saddle shop.
I've downloaded that Motherboard Monitor program. I read the help file and thought I was setting it up correctly but I must have done something idiotic. All of a sudden an alarm went off and I couldn't get rid of it. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Scared the hell outta me. Had to shut down to stop it. I need to start over and try again. I am confused about which is which in the list and what to assign to what. A whole bunch are in the little dropdown list. All I want is the CPU and the case interior. I'll figure it out...hopefully. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

QOH
Was it the ASUS program??
Now color me gone.
night all.

No. That was in there (about Asus) but it said to go to a system page and if my stuff was listed there in a certain part that it would work. It was, so then when I went back to the temperature part to set it up, that little drop down menu had about ten things to "set" or assign. I was confused there. Probably should have just picked the first two and left it alone. I just need to start over and try again.
-
Artic Silver thermal compound is the best--can get it at www.2cooltek.com
But any good silicone-based thermal paste will beat out a thermal pad. 3M makes a thermal tape that's pretty good for semi-permanent gluing, but I'd still go with paste.
QoH: you'll have to play around with M-monitor--probably had your alarm set too low.
-
Allrightythen! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ I did it! I went to the website and clicked on ABIT in the list and got the settings for the case and the CPU. They are displayed in the tray...in the color of my choosing. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Looks to be about three degrees less than the BIOS says, just like you thought bistro. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
Very good. Don't ever take a temp reading for gospel. Unless you're measuring directly off the chip with a good instrument, plus or minus 3 degrees is a good rule of thumb. Some software measuring utilities are better than others; MM is pretty good.
-
Morning,
Where it says "compensation for this sensor" and you can put in a number is that to "adjust " it?
I also see it reading how many Mhz it is running at but it fluctuates. Is that the true frequency <--(? right term) or is it off a little too ?
-
It's always going to be a little off, but close enough for fairly accurate readings. That adjustment should be set for +, - 3 degrees.
Added a light last night that puts a blue glow coming out of those expanded air holes at the bottom of the front panel. "Psychedelic, man!" https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Replacement 120 fan should be in today. Also got a Blue Orb and some RAM sinks to put on that ASus GeForce2 GTS card I hope to pick up soon. Doggone it, QoH! There I was, all content with the system I had and YOU had to go and say "I wanna new system!", and BAM! I catch Upgrade Fever from that.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I was going to say matches your eyes, but I remember from your pic https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ they are fluorescent green. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ (speaking of psychedelic)
I just sneaked into the BIOS and got those temps there, booted up and real quick adjusted the MBMonitor. Now it's accurate. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
[This message has been edited by Queen_of_Hearts (edited 03-14-2001).]

Well my bios matches the probe which has a error of + or- 1 digit. Close enough.
Nephew getting Married so will be out of town this weekend again. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ [Have always liked traveling,]
Now if I duct the front input fan to video card, then duct a side mount to the cpu, that should change things around temp wise.
Want to figure it all out before I do it.

Did Ya All forget the heat pump to help your utility bills? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ And I made a statement one time on this forum about heat not affecting a computer much. sheeesh! What you all are doing is keeping your computers from having those unexplained crashes we see on the forums so much. Just wish everybody on these forums will have read this part before it's over.
