Train, Last defrag using your method in 6 min some odd seconds and came back around and hit it again with time under 3min. This for 10.3GB hard drive.
Got an IBM pc, 800mhz processor, for a new GPS system we're putting in and guess what? Computer ops didn't think we would use the 2000 OS so they deleted a bunch of it. Having seen the errors of their ways, might just be reinstalled come Monday. Remember always decrease capabilities. Whooosh. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

The defrag time will probably remain the same from now on. Depends on how much you have on it.
Bet you install Monday, then find out how to turn off things like we do in msconfig/startup.

It's been a while, so i thought to treat you to another sampling from The Lost Annals of Bistro:
In the Year 2347 B.D. (Before DOS), bistro and his evil twin Ortsib were pitting all their cyber-forces against each other in what has since become known as "The Great Cyber-War between a Good Guy and a Bad Guy".
Bistro's forces, against all odds (which later became a popular rock song), conquered the evil forces of Ostrib. As punishment, bistro vanquished (Latin for "got rid of") his evil brother Ostrib to a parallel universe. (Ostrib's evil cyber-forces decided to become what is called "good" to avoid the same fate). In the parallel universe, Ostrib made use of the forbidden art of "Marr-Kut-Ting"; a technique used to hypnotize the masses, making them believe they need to buy things they really don't need. He used this dark art to develop and sell a computer operating system which he named "Macrohard Shutters". The product sold like parallel hotcakes and 90% of that parallel population bought it. Even though it crashed their systems often, they were so enamoured by it that they continued to use it by means of "patches". And so it continues to this day (or parallel day over there...). These events have lent themselves to the theory that perhaps the universes are more parallel than previously believed. And so it goes on....and on....and on... Marvel at these things, little children. Ponder them in the night. Forget them during the day...

Yup, bet on it.
I am curious about something. Over on 98 on Gfunk's thread about cookies, of which you put something in that I am going to try, I felt like there's paranoia there. Why? If you use a cell phone you can be evesdropped on too. Or are we in fact trying to scramble Big Brothers brain with what we do. Maybe it creates jobs. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I am bulding a system and have gotten to choosing a mother board, I was wondering why did you chose the Abit BX 133-RAID mobo?

I felt like there's paranoia there.
There is more out there than you would believe. Surprised me.
But, what I like about it is that short sheets all those invisible addresses that we can not see in our browser and the results are faster surfing. So, here it is again.
In IE go to tools, select internet options. Select the security tab.
Click the restricted sites icon and then the sitesbutton.
in add this website to zone.
[type in] *.doubleclick.com
hit add button.
[type in] *.doubleclick.net
hit add
ok on out
end of doubleclick problem and Ad-Aware or optout will never find another on your machine while these are in there.
What works for me.
Also read here http://grc.com/cb-faq.htm#privacy-auto
Get Nasties.Reg and get rid of a bunch of those things. Helps speed up surfing also.
I use the nasties.Reg , find it faster than typing all those web address in. Plus I have added some.

With the Raid setup [ATA100} you can have 4
ide devices and On the ATA100 4 harddrives.
For normal use cdrom and cd-rw and a ATA100 harddrive all can be set for master on their own cannel. So, no compatability problems.

Not sure which one of my componants is responsible for this little feature, but I sure do like it. When I choose Shut Down from the Shut down menu instead of Restart, it does exactly that. It turns itself off. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Cool.

Oh NOW have a folder in C/Windows/Options/ Cabs. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ It was NOT there before. The Windows Update IE 5.01 and sp1 must have put it there.
Train, you remember that Receipt tab in OE ? What was it that made it be there? I thought it was sp1 but I still don't have that in OE.
-
QoH, just wondering how many tweaks you have put in on MB so far since you brought him up.

Train, Knowing her highness, I can't wait. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Slightly off topic. Need some info on file types concerning CD-ROM. What is the info in your system for CD Audio Track and if you have it what does Audio CD show, including the info that comes up when you click on edit? Whenever I reboot and Real Player is installed it overrides the open with "CD-ROM" and makes itself the open with. Then no CD-ROM and no music. And my PC does not recognize the Real Player file. If I reinstall from disk everything is fine until I add Real Player. I believe this type of conflict affects and causes many of the questions asked concerning CD-ROM's.

Oh.......just a couple, greengoose https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Well Train, I ran the repair tool and still no Receipt tab. Not a big deal, I just thought it was supposed to appear after that sp1 dealy. I don't really have any need for it...just curious as to why it's still missing. Everything else is doing so good, I'm not reinstalling just to get that.

Try this but change the picture stuff to sound.
Try this. Open Windows Explorer. Browse/Scroll around until you find a .BMP file. Hold down the [Shift] key while you right-click that filename and select Open With. Now select the program that you want Windows [mspaint] to use to open this type of file and then place a checkmark next to "Always use this program to open this type of file". That's it, click OK. (Hope that all makes sense). And I agree with you on the sound playing problems.

also, i noticed that they sell a Slot 1 mobo like the Abit up ^ there. why did you (greengoose1) choose a socket 370 over slot 1?

viper0070 From Operation Delta 3
bistro:
Ok...looked around a bit and I have a couple of recommendations for mobo/CPU--will give you avg. prices too. Both are Intel-based mobos. One takes a 370 Socket CPU, the other takes a Slot 1 type. (Now don't freak out, I'll keep this simple...). 370 socket CPU's have been around for a long time--the chip is designed to lay flat, inserted into a socket on the mobo that looks like a Saltine cracker with a big hole in the middle--edges full of small pinholes--is that graphic enough? . Then Intel had an idea to put their chips into a black casing, which in turn is inserted upright into a slot on a mobo that looks much like the slot your vid card is inserted into (Slot 1 type). Both are still being made. Heard a rumor that Intel was possibly considering discontinuing the Slot 1 type and making all their chips 370's. Remains to be seen. Anyway, one of these mobos is Socket 370, the other is a Slot 1 type. Both are excellent and won't be "obsolete" for quite a while. You simply match the mobo with the correct type Pentium (or Celeron). (prices given are average)
1. Motherboard: Abit BX 133-RAID; considered one of, if not the best, mobo of the year.
QofH:
For only 5 bucks difference in the motherboards I'd almost have to go
with the Abit, since it is the 370 Socket. Even if it is just a rumor.

Train, Worked with the info on "open with" a little bit and did not recognise anything that would work with CD-ROM so am digging into it more.
