There have been many problems come up that have been dispatched rather quickly. The detailed information presented, both hardware and software, are impressive. Oh...I'll be alright...doc thinks it's severe esophagistis...feels like a heart attack especially lying down at night. Got some different meds that seem to help--big test is tonight when I lay down. If you can, email me a new esophagus...

One other one I thought about getting was sort of a puzzle solving Sherlock Holmesy kinda game. The scenery looked pretty realistic on the box, and seemed like one I might like.

Read the background to the story thoroughly--will help a lot to understand what in the *&$# going on. If you really get stuck, it's OK to read up on the answer (The Myst Purists will hang me for that one... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/)
BTW: the Windows Update site has the Windows 98 Customer Service Pack CD available. You just pay for shipping. Has bug fixes, etc.--might save you time if you ever have to re-do everything.

I know you didn't. I think you are very perceptive. I looked at them all. This one seemed real and calm anyway. I would like to know if there really are games like the ones in the 3DMark Demo.
Usually the ones the kids like are too bloody for me. Even the 007 in Nintendo 64 was not something I cared to play or even watch.

QoH: https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Oh...OK..if you're bound and determined to get stumped a lot--play Real Myst--(actually I got hooked on the original--just bought Real Myst a little while back--haven't had too much time to play it---it is the same as the original except you now have fluid motion; and there's supposedly an additional Age to visit. Have fun with it.
Word to the Wise:Save, save, save. Solve a puzzle-save immediately. Frustrating to have to go back through just to re-solve the puzzle(s).
Lots of games out there that have graphics like you see on the demo. Most do NOT have the strategy guide included (gotta love those marketers!..).

Mosaic1: Thank you. Boy, do I know that by experience. Have had pain before, but this one takes the cake. Trying to fall to sleep propped up like that was and is difficult.
They're going to stick a tube down there on Friday and see what's going on (probably detect the first bottomless pit found in a human...). Today hasn't been too bad--must be the new meds. *whining* My mouse won't work. It doesn't show up when the hand appears to click to start the game. I went to the web site and downloaded a patch that is supposed to be necessary. Installed it and hoped that would fix the problem. Still no mouse and no up down arrows work either.
Something strange though, just as I started to connect, and clicked the Connect button, the screen popped up for the game (the quit/save menu) and the mouse pointer was there.

Ya don't have to be connected to play do you ?

No, it's not an online game. Just uninstall/reinstall. Recommend "Full" installation--the game will run better. (Still need the CD in to play though).

A glitch I notice with the original Myst was that you would swear you've exited the game, but it's still "winding down" in the background--odd. Perhaps that was the problem you encountered when connecting.

I think QoH is lost....lost....lost...on the Island of Myst....

I have the CD in and installed the patch. Even took the game back and got another one thinkin' I musta had a dud. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/Still does not have the mouse.

Sometimes when I get to the place to start and can't get out I hit Control and esc and it takes me back to the desktop. Then I try again and the menu appears for resume, quit or save and the mouse is there, but then when I get back to the "Book" and the "Hand" ...no mouse. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I will email their technical support or call in the morning and find out what's wrong. Nothing about this in their FAQ. Only a few fixes for other things and some mouse issues that the patch is supposed to fix.

Did you get the game operating correctly? If so, it'll take a little while before you get used to the controls and familiar with the lay of the land. Yeah...you know, where the book hits the ground and there is a hand you are supposed to grab with the mouse cursor. Well, there is no cursor ! So I can't get in. Haven't seen a thing but the dude falling thru the crack and the book hitting the ground.

Hmmmmm....wait...I know! We'll make another boot disk...it'll fdisk, reformat, and make sure Myst works and ......oh, forget it--don't wanna go through THAT again....

Sorry. I'll check into that tomorrow. Might be interesting to see if you try the Standard installation--see if that'll make a difference (for some reason).

The conflict may be there.

It's a Memorex ...has three buttons. I can use the one from OLD. It's a Compaq but has the correct end on it. Maybe I'll try him.
