Operation Delta 8
Time to start another section. The Queen of Hearts and I continue towards our goal - which is to build a computer - both of us. A lot of members have put in their two cents worth to both educate and help us. Without them, we could not do this. Feel free to make a comment or suggestion. We thank you for your effort. See you two showed, but the QoH must have started cleaning again. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Almost forgot, checked on some cutting edge components like a 1GB processer. How many you want at $1463. Wow. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

There were negative comments on the via this week I noticed. What's the biggest problem with them do you think?
-
The primary problem thatI've observed on the 98 forum is the USB drivers--lot of conflicts and no-go's. Something to do with the Via 4-in-1 drivers, too. Not sure if they've been resolved yet by Via--haven't really looked into it.
-
One question I see on my notes is this: do we need a pencil soldering iron, 15w or 33.3w for any thing?
-
greengoose1
I see no reason for it. Just plugging things in is all.
But I have a digital multimeter already. I use it very often. But, only on that one computer though.

That's right--all plug-in. May want that little computer tool kit though--Phillips screwdriver, needlenose, etc.--all non-magnetic.
Well boys and girls--gotta call it a night.

Hi greengoose,
Of all the ones I've looked at so far, Allstar has been the most reasonable on everything.
I've checked them on availability, also. (But that does not mean it still will be in a couple weeks.)
Still checking and hopefully prices will drop some more after Christmas. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Working, entertaining and preparations for the big day keeping me occupied. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
What do you have on a price for the PIII? Nice to hear from you. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
-
Queen of Hearts, I didn't. Train mentioned 370 and I found several places higher. 125 to 150 on the mobo we're going to use and 150 on the WD ATA-66. Got a feeling the prices will drop in the new year looking at all the data I follow. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
greengoose check this the darn thing would not click thru.
Go to Q_O_H address and on the left are to boxes open the bottom and select intel they are listing the 866 for 262 vs 370 smiling time

Got it Train, indeed the "equipment list" is easy to read. Reminds me of..... OK, 262 is good and guess what. The AbitBX 133-Raid at 119
-
Yes, I kind of like those prices myself https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I do declare, I made some calls [no charge today] and can get most Items local with a difference of 10 to $15 more. Lucky I guess.
But the newest Boards require ram that is 4X higher than what we are looking at. Did you see me shutter?????

$89 is best on 128 RAM here so far. Agree with you on prices dipping further from what I can see. Stores loaded with "stuff" still.

I'm here in the Cleveland area on my brother-in-law's computer which is slower than a dead turtle in a barrel of tar. Cold? Yes, it's *&^% cold up here!
Will be taking this thing apart tomorrow and overhauling it--he's clearing an area for me as we speak. New RAM, OS (98) and hard drive upgrade.
-
Not much happening. You're off tomorrow too? Right? Paine had two posts on hardware here I couldn't answer. Maybe you can check.
-
Heh Heh, that is cold. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ That's why the computer is slow. It's only freezing here. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
