What "little" program...do I wish existed???
I just LOVE the thread : What "little" program could you simply not do without?...(I only wish someone would print it in book form)
This got me to thinking of the many programs that I wished existed; but, since I'm computer illiterate, I got to thinking that maybe what I wish I had, really DOES exist...except that I'm just not aware of it.
So, if i could start the ball rolling, here's just a few of my wises on my wish list, BTW any help on finding if there are such programs out there would be greatly appreciated.
1) I wish there was some program that would ONLY allow ME to close any open windows...I hate it when I'm involved in something & have to open several windows at one time & I then accidentally open another window the wrong way & Windows closes a previously opened window, that I didn't want closed...the program I'd like would keep all windows that I open, open, unless I specifically do something to close them.
2) I wish that there's be a way that I could copy items that for whatever reason I can't copy now....for example, I might get an error message box & want to copy it so that perhaps I can ask webopedia for help on it...but for some reason, I can't click on it in order to copy it...
3) Also, many times using the "select" instead of "print" has helped me to print only specific things; but, many times it'll also include a picture or advertisement that I don't want included ...I need a program that some how will allow me to be VERY specific on want I want to print.
Well, I hope these are enough to start this thread.
Does anyone else have a wish list????
Thanks
completely remove programs i uninstall
oops....i thought i posted this wish of mine on this thread but apparently i start a new thread titled "Programs"...i didn't mean to do that..so here's my post:
"i wish there was a quick & easy way to make sure when i UN-INSTALL a program that ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING that was installed WITH the program is COMPLETELY removed.
on occasion, if i un-install a program...i'm advised that it's un-installed BUT there are some remnants of the program left over which wasn't/can't be removed...why should this happen???? i don't know....BUT there should be a way to make sure that EVERYTHING is removed (don't you think??)!!!!
i don't know if this is unrealistic or that there's no need for this...but, i have a feeling that some problems i get on my computer is due to this type of problem."

i got 2 replies from General Winters & Triple7's..
here's their posts:
General Winters:
I use a program like Total Uninstall to monitor the installation so it can remove all changes.
There is a freeware version (v2) and a pay version (v3)

How it works?
Total Uninstall creates a snapshot of your system prior to installing a new application. It then takes an additional snapshot after the installation has completed. It then compares the two snapshots and displays all changes in a graphical tree view, marking all registry values and/or files that have been added, changed or deleted. Total Uninstall saves these changes and if you decide to uninstall the application, it will reverse the changes to the previous state.

Other programs I have used for this would be InCtrl / System Mechanic / RegShot combined with UnDoReg.

Triple7's
That's why I use installation monitoring software when installing programs in windows. It records all changes and additions to all files and registry entries, then creates a report.
Most stuff left behind are simple folders, some registry entries and maybe a dll or two. Nothing all that critical in most cases but it's nice to keep things clean.
You definetly don't want an uninstaller to remove "everything" if it happened to replace a critical system file when it installed. Might end up with more problems then if you just left the junk there.
EDIT: OOps, I see the general beat me to it.

"Portable" personal information manager
What I would like to see is a Personal Information manager with the ability to run entirely from a USB key. Key features would include a notepad, password manager, address book, and a self contained e mail program and web browser.
Maybe there's one out there already that I am unaware of?????
