Hello Valkay and welcome to VirtualDR https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
when you say you want to send files are you talking programs (like .exe) or documents (like .doc or .xls)?
If you are sending programs then Winzip is really good.
But if you are talking document files then PDF is really good (a pdf file of the same content is smaller than a word document).
With your OCR reader are you using OmniPage Pro? If so try adding another scanner and then add the drivers that you got with your scanner.
Hope that it helps.

Remember two wrongs doesn't make a right, but three lefts do.
I really admire you for being able to switch between Adobe Acrobat files (.pdf) and WinZip file (.zip)
How do you select the conversion and what software do you use?

Scandisk/Defrag/MSCONFIG
First I had the winzip and then I wondered if pdf files were smaller..so I bought a program called Easy PDF can't figure it out yet..the one file I did scan and put it into PDF didn't come out clear at all. It showed clear till I saved it..These are doll patterns I am saving to disk the patterns are in JPG format. I have been sending them out to different people in a doll group and I thought even in winzip they are huge..I would love to find a program that would just convert the patterns to note pad text file.
In order to use a PDF, you need to postscript it first... if these are just jpg images there is no need to pdf them. PDFs are more commonly used for graphic images that have fonts in them and can be opened on any platform. I deal with PDF's everyday in my job so I know this. If you're working with jpg's, then zipping them would be your best bet. How large are each of the jpg's? If they're big, do they need to be?
Don't get me wrong you CAN pdf a jpg, but the jpg must be "placed" or "imported" into a word processing program, such as Quark or Microsoft word etc. Then you would print to "file" and create a .ps or postscript. Then you would need a Distiller to turn it into a PDF. Like Acrobat Distiller. It's rather an easy process but if you're not familiar with PDF's and postscripts and can sound complicated.
