Friday Night Trivia
Years ago, back in the 3.1 days there was a product that was better than Windows ever dreamed about being. It never suceeded but really was excellent
The product ran and multitasked on any computer, including an 8088 with 1 (yes ONE) meg of ram. I ran it on a 286 12mhz with one meg of ram and it multitasked flawlessly
It ran on any video card or monitor
What was the product?
Hint:
Its not Unix nor Linux
It ran IBM stuff

Think harder
This program did not require Windows, it replaced it. Although they could coexist easily
I still have it in the archives somewhere

Think about it like this
It was better Windows than Windows 3.1.
It didnt need Windows or require it
Worked with anything
Most of you have probably never heard of it

Would it be QNX. It is an OS that can replace windows or work with it.
Max, I tried to send you email earlier. But I kept getting booted off the net. So I decided I would write it later. By the time I got back in here I had forgotten what I was going to write you about until now... I'll send it in a minute. If I can stay on long enough....
EDIT
Max, You got mail.
PC, could you take a look at the win/98 forum. The Mach2 show is gone and 11:43 shows up with my name beside it.. What is going on????

Got the mail. Return on the way. I've been having mail trouble so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing it.
PCSolutions,
Are any of these answers even close? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ If they aren't, we might need a hint. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

QNX has been around for about 20 years and is still operating. You can download it free or order the CD for $30... I think I would go for the download....Then burn it to a CD..

Worked right next door to QNX for 10 years, there were only a couple of businesses in that development back then in '89. You can put the demo on a 3.5" diskette. Beware of IRQ conflicts, it doesn't like them one bit. http://www.qnx.com/demodisk/
Dodge - I couldn't log on almost all day yesterday. A Teleglobe router blown in Montreal apparently.

I checked ebay just out of curiosity. Somebody was selling a system that was bundles with this product. Found the software and even a tshirt!
The company is still around, at least as far as I know. The product shipped in 1989 and was renamed sometime after that. I think it originally released on the C64 back in 1986(that should help)
It shipped with a word processor, database, file namager, address book, date book, screen savers, games, and communications software bundled inside of it
Here are the System Requirements:
286/386 PC, 640k ram, 40 Mb hard drive.
MS-DOS or PC-DOS 3.0 or higher, CGA/EGA/VGA/SVGA or Hercules
It appears that I can still buy it, but under the new name.
Does that help?
