Outlook 2000 Email Security Patch

I'm having problems trying to install http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/20...s/Out2ksec.htm or "out2ksec.exe" the Outlook 2000 SR-1 Update: E-mail Security patch. When I try to run it, it says: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package '{ODCOF122-1B1C-11D4-AED6-00C04F022C53}' in the box below." The box below has:"c:\windows\TEMP\sr1patch\"

If I point to the SR1 CDROM that I have it can't find a file "-2147287038". The {ODC0F122....etc} file is mentioned in the file properties of the Data1.msp file on the CDROM. The CDROM is definately the SR1(a) patch (although I thought it was just the SR1 patch for Office 2000). If I try to run the SR1 (a) update or install SR1(a) and I did thinking I only had SR1 it says SR1 is already installed. The details on the MSknowledgebase also confirm the files installed and on the CD are for SR1 (a) not SR1.
I also installed the MSinstaller "instmsi.exe" from MS Office 2000 update support site; perhaps I shouldn't have or perhaps I should run the "instmsi" file on the SR1 (a) CDROM. The "wd2ksec.exe" Word 2000 email patch meets the same end; can't find the file. If I try and run the Outlook 2000 Collaboration Data Objects (CDO)patch "wd2ksec.exe" it says I need to run the Outlook 2000 email patch 1st. I downloaded and installed the MS IE5.01 security patches and the new Virtual Machine patch before trying all this. The Office 2000 Auto Update function at the MS Office Update site never works for me; even after uninstalling "Getright" and turning off McAffee and Zone Alarm.

Any ideas?

Hi dude.. I'm a bit confused by MS' directions, too. Sounds like you have the right release to upgrade but perhaps it's for a network app? Still sounds like it's a pain for a patch.

Anyway.. I saw that you said you were running "getright" I hope this was not the banner ad version. Because if it was that is an Aureate member application. Which means you have aureate in stalled in your registry along with a record of every site you've visited since using it. mach

Not the banner ad one; paid version. Hmmm I wondered about that network version question as well but MS sent me mail under the Office upgrade service the run telling me it was available and I assume they know I have a stand alone PC.

This has got much worse. I thought perhaps if I used the detect repair tool in Outlook it might fix it. Guess what: If I use the detect repair in any of the office tools I get the same message: The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Time to *&&*^%%^$ reinstall MSoffice I guess.


PS same thing happens when I try and re-install office; (ie Setting,Control Panel, Add/Remove Software, MSOffice Products Highlighted gives this same message box. Somehow I think I have got a network installer installed and it can't find my correct product code location .......arrrgh.

I think I need to do the equivilant for a stand-alone PC as described here: http://www.microsoft.com/Office/ORK/...rn/outsdep.htm Did they send me the SR1a network CD by mistake or did the second part of the SR 1(a) patch fail. Solved it I think; well the cause at least.
The log file of the SR1(a) includes the following entries:

Location: msp\data2.msp
Starting the application of the patches.

Its deletes the files I need now I should also be able to see how they were created in the log file and put them back; I hope.

Fixed. I copied data1.msp and data2.msp from the SR1 (a) Patch CDROM to c:\windows\TEMP\sr1patch\ and renamed them {0DC0F122-1B1C-11D4-AED6-00C04F022C53} and
