Personal Address Books
I have a question regarding personal address books.
My new boss had his old office send him a copy of his MS Exchange .pab file. He wants to continue using this address book here. Problem is is we connect to our exchange server using Outlook Express via POP3 services.
Thus the question. How can I copy this .pab file to Outlook Express so that it will be able to access it?
I have tried the import feature - where it asks to import an exchange address book. But it tries to connect to the exchange server to execute the import - but I have the file on disk. So this isn't working for me.
Any ideas.
Thanks,
Thom

I have done such an import, but I had MS Exchange Client (or "Windows Messaging", as it was renamed) installed on the machine. I don't know of any way to import an Exchange *.PAB file that is not in use (installed in one of the profiles).
What I suggest:
Install Exchange Client, if not already done. Create a new profile, and add there only "Personal Folders" and "Personal address book". When adding the "Personal address book" service, you will be asked for a location where to store the address book. Select the existing *.PAB file. An alternative to this is to edit the/an existing profile ("Tools"/ "Services"/ select "Personal address book" then "Properties") to change the file that is used (don't forget to note the current file name if you need to put it back later).
Then in Outlook Express choose "File"/ "Import"/ "Other address book"/ "Microsoft Exchange Address Book" (I have OE5, in other version the exact spelling may be different). You will be prompted for the (Exchange Client) profile to use, choose the one you just created.

1.Goto: tools\services
2.Chose Personal addres book and click Properties
3.See where is the file with personal adreses (usualy c:\exchange\mailbox.pab)
4. Open explorer: rename the old file ( to preserve the old entries in a file)
5. Copy your *.pab file to that location and rename it if necessary
That's it!
PS: if your .pab file is located on a server you probably have to contact your sys admin
Advice: back- your .pst and .pab files often (monthly)
