a friend of mine gave me his -very- old motherboard with a pentium 100 mhz on it.
i`m currently running my linux box with a 486 33 mhz, and i would like to change that for the more fast processor. is there any special advice i should follow, of by simply replacing the motherboard, linux will aknowledge the new processor upon booting?
Ideally this should work so long as linux supports the motherboard (which it probably does). If your old mb had integrated sound and video, you may have to reconfigure some settings, especially for X.
The worst that could happen is that Linux will not boot. In that case, just put your old mb back in if you want, or do a reinstall retaining your /home directory and any other info you want to save. If /home is not on a seperate partition, you may want to relocate your files to another area before wiping the driver (you could also do an upgrade which should not touch your /home directory).

i guess that if i have the time, i will try to do the update this weekend. although, i don`t want to turn off my linux box; i just don`t stop to amaza me how long they can go on with out rebooting, mine is 16 days, and for what i learned, that is nothing.
