Also, at boot up, I'm still getting the Win98 splash screen for about 2 seconds before the DOS screen comes up and tells the the HIMEM is missing. Could this have something to do with it?
I'm going to format the drive again and start from scratch and see what happens.

You can't edit config.sys because edit is not in the path. You might also be running PC-DOS. Try "e config.sys" instead.
