Never XP

Wow! so many people going for XP! havent you all heard what i heard? (PC Pro magazine)

I dont think i will ever install XP. Not only is it bloatware, everything is bloatware, even linux is getting that far but linux gives u the option to run without X or the packages but XP ruins the hardware.

Once you start installing XP, it messes up the bios and stamps every hardware in your system, takes out the information of all your hardware, marks it and MS stores it in its database so you can't take one peice of hardware out and put it in another machine. This is not security - it is extreme snooping! I am going down the linux route after w2k.

MS just wants us to get tangled in their half-non functioning bloatware, just like a spider gets stuck in its web, only XP is the big spider web (very sticky).

Whatever happend to privacy? so MS not only wants some big bucks for some software they're testing on us as guenie pigs but also wants to control our lives by tracking whos doing what and when.

Whew, thanks, you just saved everyone in the forum from certain doom.

Note to self...if XP is installed, hardware will self-destruct, name and all personal information will be stored on Microsoft Database, possibly in conspiracy w/ US government.


Windows XP is bloatware, linux is bloatware... What OS have you written again? Oh, that's what I thought.

I have neen running XP since it's first trial version and I think it's the best OS they come up with....No probs at all...

I agree, XP Pro is by far the best OS I have ever used. Linux is getting to the point that it will be a great desktop system. It has a ways to go but getting better.

shahan, I hoe you like DOS 3.0 as that was the last OS that wasn't bloated. Oh yes, can't play any games with it either.

What is the web site that you got all that stuff?????

Well I think the XP OS is more stable. There are things wrong with it though.
1. It finds hardware that does not exist on the system.

2. It reinstalls Internet Games that I have removed because I do not play them.

3. Search is slower than previous Windows.

4. Defrag will not defrag first time through like the previous versions.

5. Had my first crash. Nothing running but a Screen Saver, I stopped the saver and tried to access my second hard drive. It did not show up in Device Manager or My Computer until I did a cold reboot. This is after it had been running for a few weeks with no trouble.

I purchased my computer in March with factory installed XP Home. I like it! It is much better than my old computer running Windows Me Upgrade. I have used 3.1, 95 and 98. I did have some problems at first with XP but think most of it was my lack of familiarity with XP. I'll stay with XP.

well, i grew up in the old dos days, using dos, oh yes and there were some good dos games, in fact i even have some now and it even works on my w2k. But after dos i moved into unix on sun sparc station for 2 years on a CLI. at that time the first version of X was coming out.

I'm sorry if i caused an outrage here but those were the things i really read in PC Pro magazine a few months ago.

"Stamps" the hardware so you can't put it in another machine?

I'm not sure which article in "PC Pro Magazine" you misread, but nothing I've read about XP, and nothing I've experienced with XP suggests this.
