XP Logon Screensaver puzzle

The screensaver that becomes active at the XP Pro Logon is the generic XP Logo that changes position on the screen. I have a total of 5 profiles created, including the Administrator, all using a different screensaver none of which are the generic one. How do I change this one screensaver? Changing all the other screen savers had no effect on this and Tweak UI doesn't offer a way to do it either. Sounds ike a Registry hack to me.....

That sounds like the screensaver that is loaded when Windows is installed. I don't know about the Pro version, but all I did to get rid of it was right click the desktop go to properties and then screen saver and set it to none. Then again I have but one user on my computer.

Thanks Jubal but when you have more than one user profile created XP stops a logon screen and with XP Pro, not sure about XP home although I'm sure its the same, you get a generic screensaver this is before you get to a desktop. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

What happens when you are all logged on and go to the where you set the screen saver does it show the windows screensaver?

Try going to start--settings--control panel--user accounts There you can change pictures, name and other things.

If computers are so smart, why can't they fix themselfs??

I can set the same screensaver for every user account or assign different screensavers for each account this has no effect on the screen saver at the logon screen and no there is no option to set a screensaver in the Control panel> User accounts. In User accounts you can change the picture\icon for each acoount this is no what I'm referring to. It is a screensaver.

Right Click on the desktop after you have logged in. Choose Properties, then choose the Screen Saver tab. Is the Screen Saver selected in the drop down list? If it is then just select None and click Apply.

what part of this don't you get setting a screensaver withing a user profile has no effect on the screensaver at the logon screen. You can't right click the logon screen and set a screensaver here..... if you don't know admit to it and shrug I have been working on this puzzle for some time now no harm in admitting you don't know

third post down, sounds like it should work:

"When nobody is logged in to a windows machine, the default user profile is applied, thus if you change the registry setting for default user, those changes are applied while no user is logged in. More specifically, the registry key for the screensaver is in:

HK_Users\.default\Control Panel\Desktop

the key "SCRNSAVE.EXE" is set (by default) to logon.scr

simply replace this with the filename.scr of the screensaver you would rather see. "

No sense in getting huffy. You did not make it very clear that you had gone to where the Screen Savers are set. All you had to say was that does not work. Cheers.

Try this

Go To Start | Run | Regedit

Find the following key if it exists

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

In the right pane, you should see ScreenSaveActive
If the value is 1, Right click and Click modify, change the value to 0 (zero)

Just for your info, it's called a logon screen ..... and it's not a screen saver. It is you calling a logon screen a "screensaver" which has caused the confusion.

I am shocked by how many people are confused. Everything was very clearly explained in the first post. If the logon screen stays on long enough, the screen saver will pop up.

I think the registry hacks above would correct the problem, but I wish people would read the posts first before giving responses that make no sense or have already been answered.
