oh.oh
just tried to update my cd-burner {lg-8120b}firmware,it seemed to go good, but nowon boot-up it will not find it,not in bios either.
my dvd player is there, but no burner.i had to unplug the power from the burner,on boot up i would have to wait 5-8 min for "looking for ide devices"to stop .than only my dvd would show, tried switching master slave config, still no good.did i ruin my burner?
thanks!!

arms,
Use system restore to go back to a time before the update and see if everything is working.
most likely the upgrade didn't work as expected.
Post back the results and we can help you further.

Hi arms,
I'm in hopes that mac is right. When I first read your post, I thought of rollng it back, too. But then I began to think that it would not roll back a flash to the burner's firmware, no?

On SOME CD-ROM, CDRW, and DVD drives you can restore the factory firmware by powering down, then holding down the eject button while powering up the computer. The eject button must be held down from the time the power switch is turned on until the OS starts.
It may work for you-- good luck!
If it does restore the factory firmware, you can attempt to flash it again-- but make sure the boot disk you are using does not load any drivers whatsoever unless the flash utility specifically requires them. HIMEM.SYS, EMM386.EXE, SMARTDRV.EXE can all interfere w/ the flashing process. Just open a command.com window on a Win9x machine and do a "format a: /s" to get a bare-minimum boot diskette. The boot diskettes made by WinME and XP are typically not suitable for firmware upgrades.
