Hi Limerick, Not really helpfull to me because when it comes to altering something in Boot or Reg it will always go wrong for me because I'm rather thick when it comes to this kind of thing. Brain stops working. LOL
Every person who wants to do the same as me has a (1) in the lines. I have got (2). Any ideas as to why. Also I do not want to Delete WinME, thats my main Operateing OS.
So do I delete the (2)and put a (1)or(0)

Hi Scarecrowdr,
Sorry that the other was not of help to you. I have not used WinMe at all, so have nothing here that I can look at in that regard.
Here are the contents of one of my machines that dual boots between Win2K and XP Pro. This is the boot.ini that the Win2K OS uses:
[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
Here is the same contents from the boot.ini that the XP OS uses:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
These two OSes are installed on separate partitions that are completely hidden from each other. The boot loader (Boot Magic) sets the partition active at the time that I choose what I'm booting into.
Here are the contents of another of my machines that boots straight into XP Home.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WIN98
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WIN98="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
I hope that by comparing these, it will be of help to you...
I would create a bootable floppy and copy your current boot.ini file to it before you make any changes. That would allow you to boot to the A> and copy it back to the root of C if your modification didn't do the trick for you.

Hi Limerick, Your second Boot Loader is the same as mine. Which part do I alter PLEASE. Seems XP Professional has the partition (2)
While the others have partition (1)
Do I Delete the whole line pertaining to Windows XP Professional or do I change (2)for(1) or (0)in both lines. Reluctant to try this end in case I wont be able to start up at all. Last thing I need is to ReFormat and start all over again. Only just finished geting this into tip top condition. Done more Formats in last 2 months than I ever done in 4 years. LOL Cheers M8.
cyclone, going to investigate that site in a moo. Thanks M8.

Hi scarecrowdr,
Mate, I'm not sure I have any other help to offer you, since I do not have a WinMe installation to examine. However, it sounds like you just need to change that 2 to 1 in both lines.
**Later edit ***
Please note again as to my previous note: "I would create a bootable floppy and copy your current boot.ini file to it before you make any changes. That would allow you to boot to the A> and copy it back to the root of C if your modification didn't do the trick for you."

You say that you deleted WinXP from your E:\.. So what OS are you going to booting from? If you’re only going to have one OS and its win98 or WinME your boot.ini can look like this.
[Boot Loader]
Default=C:\
[Operating Systems]
C:\="Microsoft Windows"
With this in the boot.ini you’ll boot strait to windows.

The boot.ini is a hidden file, so you have to show all files before you can see it.

I am set to show all files

I’m sorry I’m no thinking today. If you want to see the boot.ini in winXP, you can get to it through MSCONFIG from the run command or System Properties/Advanced/Startup and recovery/Edit.

Hi All, Many Many Thanks for all your Answers.BOOT.ini is easy to find in WinME,after showing ALL Files etc.,
My Bigest Problem is that I do not Understand DOS. I AM THICK. LOL
I Deleted my BOOT.ini and Replaced it with what WAS Sugested---[Boot Loader]DEFAULT=C:\
[OPERATING SYSTEM]C:\=Microsoft Windows
Could NOT Start up my System & could NOT enter Safe Mode. Could NOT put in a File from CDRom Disk cause it would not Auto Load (even after changes in BIOS) AND I DO Not Understand DOS. THAT Fu%$£"!ed it Good and proper so ENDED up Re-Formating my System Yet Again. NEVER MIND,I'm all for learning.
WinXP is now BANNED from my Comp.WHY!! Because it would meen me Buying a NEW Graphics Card and a NEW MODEM. NOT worth it, XP gone back to shop.
THANKS ALL. Take Care.

all you needed to do was remove this line and you would have been fine.
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Asendin---THANKS, Whish you was here to tell me that a few days ago. Funny thing was, I was going to do just what you said but thought No!! If i make a mistake I will have to start again. Made a Mistake AnyWay.
Live & Learn is what they Say,certainly implys to me. LOL. Returned XP Pro back to shop, and Happily running on WinME as before. I really liked XP as well, nice n fast, but it hated my Savage4 graphics card and detested my Modem. Saved myself £120 plus money back for XP. Maybe one day when my Graphics card packs up I'll upgrade.
Good Luck, Take Care.
