XP vs 2000

I need to put up 6 PCs in a peer to peer network.
Am I better of using XP or 2000??

XP is 10,000 times EASIER to setup a network in!!!

You would be better off in the long run using 2000. The reason for this is that XP does not have a specific server version, and 2000 does. This will make your overall support much smoother and easier to maintain. It will also give you the room in the future to expand your network as the company grows.
The most important thing to keep in mind however is, that both XP, and Win2K are basically the same operating systems. They will both be reliable for you, but Win2K probably a bit more because of the fact that it doesn't have all the excess overhead on it. And this is better for mission critical services.

I think that although our technology is growing, and moving fast, there is too much of a tendency to want to take the easiest way ALL the time. Sometimes the extra work up front will make it better in the long run.

Put in the work upfront on this, and you will enjoy the fruits of your labor a lot longer in the future.

That's my take on this issue.

I am NOT a computer EXPERT by no means! What I am talking about with the network...
I have YET to setup up a network where 95, 98.xx, or ME will "see" the 2000 and be able to access the drives! I have had ALOT of folks post replies, and I have asked a few times myself... HOW do you do it? 2000 will go down to see those O.S.'s... but I cannot get them to go up to 2000!
I have tried the netbeui that has been suggested... and SEVERAL other permission settings... etc... NONE worked for me!
But... with XP... it is a couple of icon clicks... and run 1 small .exe file on the Windows 9.x, and ME machines and... BAMM... Instant access to and from ANY of the O.S.'s! That is what I was talking about with my first reply!
And... Windows 2000 is HALF the hard drive space of XP!!! AND... There is not any STUPID WPA (Windows Product Activation)!!!
By the way... XP WPA HAS been CRACKED!!! WPA is USELESS and DEAD now!!! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ And... 2000 is AS stable as XP! It is EVEN faster than XP!
SO... Please do not think I am SLAMMING 2000! Windows 2000 is AWESOME!

Hi, I think ecrosson has said it all, and said it well.

Of course the people in this board might have a slight biasis.

It's kinda like posting in a Chevy forum: "Which is better? Camero or Mustang?"

My $0.02 says that both are fine. Win2K is my current OS, but folks i know using WinXP are quite happy with it.
