RealPlayer 5.0 using 100 CPU

I have a toshiba T8000. I have realplayer 5.0 installed. I opened it to see what it was, then promptly closed it. Now my CPU usage is 100%, slowing down all programs-Excel,Word, etc.. When I turn off my machine, a message realplayer.exe comes on and requires me to wait, end task, or cancel(?). It does this at least twice before I can shut down. I do not have realplayer running. I tried to de-install only to have it hang up at 7%,then lock up. I need this fixed, this is my work laptop and I am a remote user!!!!
