no sound after directx 8

i have no sound with any .mpg files after i installed directx i updated media player to media player 8, but nothing...mp3's work fine though...please help

Where did you get the DirectX files from? Corrupt perhaps if not from the "Evil Empire" (Microsoft). Or try Kazaa or other file sharing media or MS to download files.
Not an expert, just a suggestion!!

Sounds like it could be a CODEC problem.
