Annoying "click to show contents" of windows folders

Hi all,
Can someone tell me how I can prevent the "click to show contents of this folder" (link message?) from appearing when I try to browse the [C:\windows] path through 'My Computer'. It is very annoying, and I would like it to just open the 'Windows' folder, and show its contents, without having to make the extra click every time i use the back button. It only does this on one of my machines. And only through my 'My Computer', and not through 'Windows Explorer' (which I usually prefer anyway).
Secondly does anyone know what use this 'feature???' serves?

Why don't you just use Windows Explorer Ed?

For the most part I do. But that 'My computer' has always been able to tempt me. Especially when I am just checking on drive mappings, or a servers volume. And sometimes even though I know that there is a better way of doing something, my curiosity about my system forces me to ask these questions. I just know my other machine doesn't prompt me with this message, so there must be a way to turn it off.

If you go to control panel, sounds, there is
a sound selected undr windows explorer called Start Navigation. The default is a click. I don't know for sure because I haven't changed it, but if you select none for this, I believe there will be no sound for the usual click when you select an item in Windows explorer

Try this.....it works for Explorer - not sure about My Computer.

Edit the desktop.ini's in C:\Windows and C:\Windows\System.
Put in a ; before this line

PersistMoniker=file://Folder.htt

New look

;PersistMoniker=file://Folder.htt

If it don't work u can always put it back.

I believe that there is a Registry setting that you can change to eliminate this behavior. (It should also happen on the \Windows\System folder.) Try www.zdnet.com or www.pcplus.co.uk or www.computing.net and search for a tip on this. www.microsoft.com may also have something on it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried JohnKings suggestion first because it seemed the safest/easiest and it solved the problem. I learned a few things form the other posts as well. So they were all very useful. Thanks again guys!

if you like the web view, here's another option: make a copy of c:\program files\folder.htt on the desktop ... edit it with notepad and remove (it's near the top):

then copy the file to c:\windows\ and c:\windows\system\.
