VMM32.VXD
Got a New MOBO--ECS K7S5A--since putting in this board(which keeps giving me different probs now and again)each time I do an Critical Updates (will Not be doing that anymore)and ReStarts my Comp my Comp Won't Start up. It gos through the prosess of starting then before finishing it tells me that VMM32.VXD is missing and to reinstall Windows.Well for some reason my Comp wont let me ReInstall Win98se over itself and I find I have to do a ReFormat and start from scratch. This has hapened 6 times now in past few weeks. WHAT is VMM32.VXD and what is it for. Only seems to happen when I download Critical Update for Visual Basic Runtime MSVBVNM60.DLL It is true what they say init. If you not got any Probs, Leave well alone. Don't Fix what Don't need fixing.

Partial answer: VMM32.VXD is about 1 meg in size, a Virual Device Driver; should be on your Win98SE CD.

On the other hand...that is, if you have another hand.

Well, first of all vmm32.vxd is a compressed, monolithic file created during setup -- what is included in it depends at least to some extent on the unique hardware configuration instaled. So that in most cases, you cannot simply reinstall from the CD or another pc. There is an infamous VxD "fix" that alters the way this file is loaded on startup, I'm sure others will be pointing you there. It doesn't hurt.
There is an update driver for your mobo that might be worth installing -- GART --

Interestingly, it is also mentioned on this page:

You wouldn't have one of dem scanners attached to the system would you?
