Mosaic1 please rescue me
From what I have read you are the queen of the registry...I just set up a dual boot with 98se and win2k......on the 98se side when I make changes it is asking me to insert the 98se cd....how do I copy the cabs to the drive and tweak the registry so that it looks on the hard drive to find the cabs instead of pestering me to get that cd out of its case and put it in the drive time and time again....

Well, I'm not Mosaic1 or even pretend to be https://discussions.virtualdr.com/, but...
Copy all the Win 98 CAB files off the CD into a folder---call it Win Cab or whatever.
Then go to the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup. On the right pane, next to "SourcePath", you'll see the path E:\win98 (or whatever the letter of your CD drive). Change the path to the folder where you copied the CAB files by right-clicking 'SourcePath', then select 'Modify', then type the correct path (in the 'Value Data' line). Click OK and reboot the system.
Now you won't get that message again.
*Now watch...a half a dozen people are going to make a folder called "Win_Cab_or_Whatever"...

The cab files from your Win98 CD are usually kept in c:\windows\options\cabs, although they can be kept anywhere. -mk

I see one other entry in that registry key that calls for F:\win98\ols F:\ being the cddrive that I installed windows from....the key is named olssrcpath what is that key for?
OOPS just found 1 more reference to the F drive
it is the command line key and it says /T:c:\wininsto.400/srcdir=F:\win98/iz/is/iq/it/ii/nr/c/u:xxxxxx
what does this one mean?

Now don't you go screwing around with other keys....leave them alone. It's like a soldier in my platoon once asked "Hey Sarge, what's this for?", as he showed me a grenade pin...

Oh no Bistro I am not touching anything that you or someone much more knowledgeable about the registry does not tell me to do step by step.....I may be willing to jump right into the middle of a case full of hardware without my trusty antistatic band but I am not tweaking the registry without help....and I did not make the folder Win_Cab_or_Whatever. I was just curious..thats all

I did not do anything out of the ordinary when I loaded win98se on this time other than I had the win2k already loaded on another hard drive and then disabled it then installed windows on the primary hard drive then I hooked the secondary drive with win2k back up to power and ribbon cable...I am not understanding all those switches in that particular registy key...but then I do not have to totally understand something that works....
