How do delete shortcut?
I had installed a program I thought I wanted to run and then decided to delete it. I went in to drive c and deleted it from the program files and anything I could find related to it. I deleted the shortcut icon from my desktop. Now when I first boot up, the computer searches for the shortcut, which is not there. So where else do I need to go to delete that and stop getting that search box at boot up?
Also, why do I get a lot of "illegal operation" boxes and it closes my program? Could that be a virus? It has done that for about 3 weeks now. We do not open any forwarded email, but could we have possibly picked up one anyway? Thanks for the help!

I believe your problem is that you did not delete the program with Add/Remove Progams in the Control Panel. Go there, look for the name of the program you wish to delete, and click Add/Remove.

You should use the programs uninstaller to remove it. If it doesn't have one,go to control panel>add-remove and see if it's listed and can uninstall from there.
You should probably re-install it and uninstall as above.
You can also try the uninstall feature in Reg Cleaner from www.jv16.org . I've been able to remove stubborn programs several times with it..
Good luck...

Reinstall the program and then reboot and delete it through the Add-Remove utility. This should clear up the loose ends.
Start,Settings, Add-Remove.

Wow, I need to type faster.

DUH! I deleted everywhere but the Add/Delete place. I always forget about that one. See why we need you guys help? We need that memory jogged just a bit from time to time! That program did not have an uninstall feature. It was the Callwave program that lets you see who is calling your phone line while you are on the computer. Pretty neat program, but then we decided we did not need it. Thanks for that one, now what about the "illegal operation" box?

If you haven't done so yet, re-install that CallWave program, reboot, and THEN remove it through Add-Remove. Reboot again. Also, a good registry cleaner like EasyCleaner or RegCleaner should be used after reboooting + a scandisk and defrag won't hurt.

Thank you for your reply. I removed it from add/remove and will defrag later tonight. I use a wiping program at work that wipes the hard drive when you delete something. It will also scan the entire hard drive and wipe it clean (or so it says). Does anyone have an opinion one way or the other on that program? I want to install it on the home computer, but waiting to see if there are any "bugs" at work.
