server busy????
Greetings!
I have standalone pc - no network, etc. Dial-up modem. Win98SE/IE5.5SP2. Did complete antivirus scan & defrag last evening.
This morning I had the following programs open:
Eudora E-mail and IE5.5. While checking e-mail, this message appeared in a dialog box:
==============
Server busy
Action cannot be completed because the server is busy. Click the appropriate button on the taskbar to activate the busy server and correct the problem.
[OK]
=============
What server? Action? Active busy server? Huh? Well, clicking OK did nothing. I did close IE but my system froze and I had to do hard reboot.
What the heck is this? I have no server. This is the first time I've ever seen this message.

Probably the mail-server at the other end. Try later....or even later.

Ummmmmmmm?
Is this a Windows message or Eudora?
Try again later . . . not much help if system freezes/locks up!

Email server was busy and it locked up when I could not get as it kept trying. Best wait 15 minutes and try again when you get hat. What works for me.

Server Busy
I have been getting this stupid message periodically for several years. It is definitely a Windows message and has nothing to do with email. Although it may happen about anytime, I may most frequently get it just after a download. I can delete everything on the taskbar, but the message still will not go away and blocks any further action by the computer. Usually I have to reboot to get rid of it. Actually, I logged on here for the express purpose of trying to find out what was causing it and how to get rid of it. But I first ran a search and hit this thread. I consider the answers so far as being a bit simplistic and hope that this thread is not too dated for someone to look at this general problem in some depth.

bobhjon is correct, it's a windows message not an email server message. it usually happens to me when the program itself crashes (in this case the email program). i usually have to wait a few minutes and try again. usually if you try to do anything, the start menu will pop up as if you hit the button. not sure why it happens, but it definitely does happen. although i haven't seen it too often in win98, only in nt and 2k.

Well when it only happens at I stated above with 3 computers, and only then, and waiting 5 minutes fixes it, what is one to expect.
I'd even called my isp and they confirmed it. And said they were being hammered and lots of folks were calling in about it also.
Just my experience. FreeI was at least honest.

I get that message fairly frequently in Eudora, but it is usually because I interrupt my incoming mail (ie. I'm checking mail, I see someone is sending me a 3 MB mpg (or some other stupid joke that I have no time for) so I stop it), or my connection gets cut off. At that point, I just do like Train and wait for 15 minutes and then hold down the Shift key while I check mail which brings up the option (in Eudora) to delete mail from server without having to wait for ever to download it.
Or now that I'm using Mailwasher, I just look at the sender's address, the file size and select Delete before processing.
