Some additional points.
If you are infected, do a complete shutdown, and then bring up the boot menu and use the Command prompt to do a Scanreg /Restore.
Ways to protect yourself
1. Check the version of the Java VM you are running and ensure that it is at least 3802.
(From a DOS window, enter JVIEW. The version is on the right side of the top line)
Upgrade to 3802
2. If you use OE, go to Tools > Options > Security and select "Restricted Sites Zone". This should have all the ActiveX and Java disabled.
3. Disable, or set to prompt (or be very careful), the settings for ActiveX
