Coloured Boot Menu, How?
Hi all,
Does any1 know if/how can i change the background colour of the DualBoot Menu that i see at startup
i wanna make it grab my attention so i can't forget to select OS.....
I know how to do this in a normal autoexec/config files, maybe if i were to put the line "menucolor=15,1" into the "boot.ini" file this would do it for me.
any1 got any advice on what i need to do, would my method work, i dont wanna just try it incase it fails to boot.
Heres the Boot.ini file...whet do i do?
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=C:\
[operating systems]
C:\="Microsoft Windows"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
TIA to all that help https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

thanx for the link, i already worked out how to adjust the menu time etc (other than -1 trick),
i have mine set to 5 secs to boot to Win98 as default, but as the menu is hardly on the screen for long i just wanted it to "jump out at me with bright colours" so i wouldn't need to stare at the screen as it goes through the post to "catch it" if i wanna boot to Win2000.
i know it sounds like a silly request but i've been doing sumut on my other PC and missed the boot menu a few times (really anoying) and i think this would be a better cure than increasing the menu time as i'd like to boot fast.
Any ideas on the Colour Change? would be most apreciated.
1 thing i've now tried is sticking "menucolor=15,1" in the boot.ini file and it didn't work!

not to worry, i guess you're right and i'll get used to it in time, i just thought that this would be a simple thing to do like in autoexec files in Win98, thx for your help, i'll now concentrate on all the other problems this win2000 install has gave me, then maybe come back to this another time if it still bothers me....or maybe i should try a dual boot program.
Thanking u https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

A great piece of Freeware is XOSL. It's very small, 437k zipped, and will allow you to set one OS as default, delay the start from zero to lots of time, set the screen background color and much more. During the autoload it will display a timeline countdown bar.
You only have to hit "esc" to bypass for the other OS or enter to launch the default immediately. It's so good I scrapped my $60.0 portion of Partition magic's Boot Magic and use this instead. Great programs for free. It's what makes puting fun.
Try it you'll like it. http://www.xosl.org/
Now one caveat, The home page will list OS's 9x, DOS & ME but I use it for W9x and NT and it works fine you might check the whole site or someone else here may have W2000 and has tried it. It's worth investigating since it will do exactly what you want and more.

griffinspc sorry about the duff link GodMonstr had the right 1, thx m8 https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ i've almost sorted it now, so i'll be able to relax.....
......but due to lack of AC3 support for my 1024 sound and no DMA drive access so far i think i'm gunna have to leave 2000 mostly redundunt on my HDD (unfortunatly i have no chioce so far) and just stick to plain old 98, unless maybe SoundBlaster make some better drivers.
Think i'm gunna have to wait for Windows XP for a Reliable OS to play DVD's with, as that is my only real problem with Windows 98 for me.
BTW i am still confused on y 2000 detects a change in my system when restoring a known working copy of Win2000?
Thx all i'll battle on https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
