Should I rebuild my old desktop?

I've upgraded this machine through the years. I'd like to revamp it with new hardware and turn it into a newer creature.
Here's what I've got. gigabyte mobo p55 with an Intel i-5 760 Lynfield 2.8Ghz. GeForce 710 Video Card, Got 24 g of DDR3 RAM. Got an SSD for my C drive. Got a bunch of USB drives etc.
runs Win 10 pro, can't work with Win 11.

So i buy a mobo configged for DDR3 and my intel chip. Is that possible? I see lot of hundred dollar mobos that take DDR3. Of course I have a decent cabinet with a good power supply. I even have a DVD player.

What operating system were you planning on using on this computer? Windows 11 is not likely to be supported on that system, although you may be able to install it by bypassing the compatibility checks.

Depending on what tasks you plan on using this computer for, you may be better off buying a new motherboard, CPU, and memory and re-using your other components. That would give you a faster system that supports Windows 11 (and with luck, Windows 12, etc.).

In addition to the listed gear above I have these also: Geforce Soundblaster external vid device. A few years old. I have a Sandisk SSD 1 tb. plus several external USB drives. My deicision boils getting this gear from my dealer OR; Buy a Lenovo desktop on credit from Amazon. I like building my own but I'm worried that I"ve forgotten everything. Research is ongoing.

The speed increase you'll see from that Alder Lake 12400 and DDR5 will be massive. If your PSU is older than 5 years I'd replace it if you do the upgrade. Also, the onboard video on the 12400 is likely better than your current GPU. You're also going to need a different cooler for any Intel LGA 1700 socket CPU and it's highly advisable to get an aftermarket anti-bending mounting plate for it (under $10 on Amazon) as well.

I just read some reviews of that mobo online and they're not great. With a 12400 I'd go for an ASRock board and use cheaper DDR4 for the lower end Intel Alder Lake CPU's. You're not going to gain anything noticeable with DDR5 over DDR4 using a 12400 and the current parts you've stated you want to reuse.

I would second the ASRock line of motherboards. I have several, and they have been excellent.
