[RESOLVED] Some Keyboard Keys Not Responding

I know this sounds like a hardware problem but bear with me.

I have an iBuyPower system that has a light on the case to indicate hard drive activity. For the last month or so, once or twice per week, the monitor and keyboard freeze and the hard drive activity light stops flashing. I can shut the system off and on again and the problem disappears. I called iBuyPower about this. They suggested I do a Windows 10 reinstall to see if that fixes the problem. If not, they will replace the hard drive. Well, to avoid the nightmare of a complete Windows and apps reinstall, I found that I could do a Windows "Repair" and keep all my files and apps. I decided to try that first which I did last Wednesday. Since then all has been okay. I mention all of this just in case it might be related to my current problem.

Which happened yesterday: My Control keys stopped working. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard driver. No change. I switched out to an old keyboard I have and that fixed the Control key problem BUT it gave me a different problem: Not all of my alphabetic keys worked. I switch back to my new keyboard and all alphabetic keys work but the Control key doesn't.

Before I go and do a complete Windows 10 re-install, is there anything else I might try to fix this truly weird problem?

Do the keys stop working while you're using the keyboard? Or does it happen after the pc has been sitting idle?

Does a simple reboot help?

Additional questions:

Are the keyboards that you are using USB or PS/2?

Have you tried the keyboards on a different computer?

Have you tried the on-screen keyboard? If no, try that and report back if all of the keys work on it.

D'uh *slaps forehead*

I have been running for YEARS a program called HotKeyBind. I use it to launch programs like PrintDeskTop, Hibernate, etc. I also have Ctrl+Alt+X set as a shutdown. It was this last one that didn't work last night. My brainstorm just now was maybe this program was for some reason now causing the problem. So, I uninstalled it and, voilÃ*, my Control key is back! BTW, the "Ã*" was a copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V).
