missing dll file
I have had nothing but problems..Can you please help me...upon starting windows 98,I get an error msg, that the c:\windows\system\crtdll.dll file is missing...It cant be found anywhere and my recovery cd is damaged. I know your forum lists sites to download missing files and I have even located that file to download, however it downloads as a zip file. How and what do I do with that? It saved to the c drive and I can see it,but I dont know how to make the computer recognize that its back...I dont know if I have winzip or not..I thought I did,but cant find that either...Can someone pleeeeeeeeeease help me...I also cant load aol 6 anymore,it says something about the machine not there or something...had to go back to aol 5...so maybe if I can get the missing dll file back to working order it will help...thank you so much for any help...

Strange that a dll is zipped, you see after its un zipped

You said "Recovery CD". Are we talking HP here, or Compaq or Emachine. Since it is a Microsoft file, it probably is the same for all machines, but am not sure....so....
1. Mine is 180 k in size unzipped - I could email it to you.
2. For unzipping the one you downloaded - I was going to suggest PowerArchiver2000, but it has become "shareware" (like Winzip) since version 7.0 came out. There may still be downloadable older versions still floating at some sites. Use www.google.com to hunt for it. I like that zip program, and it was free. Could send that but is long email attachment so I would rather do DLL send.
3. If you want to try to download one that isn't zipped - go to www.dllsearch.com/ - you have to make a free account there to finish the search (just type crtdll in the box to start search) and it will give you one item found after you log in with the password name they email you. You click that item and it will download you one 180k crtdll file unzipped. Same size as mine, I just downloaded it.
That should do you.

After you unzip it put that .dll into your System folder (C:\Windows\System). That's all you need to do.
If needed you can find almost any Windows dll if not all of them for Windows 95, 98, 98Se, and ME in the DLL section here:
