hardware? I need to change my motherboard (when my daughter comes in April) but I have a new harddrive, I'm going to use to install Windows 10 on before the change of the motherboard. Do I have to reinstall Windows 10 if I install Windows now as apposed to waiting til I change the motherboard, then install Windows 10?
If you are changing a motherboard, any version of Windows would need a Repair Install at least to get the correct motherboard drivers loaded. A clean install might be better though.
How were you planning to do the Windows 10 install? A clean install of a new Windows 10 license (OEM or Retail), or an "upgrade" from Windows 7? That might affect licensing.
Clean install OEM disk coming in today with license.
I was thinking to use the .iso disk I have first, then when daughter comes and we change the motherboard, use the new OEM and do a clean install.
Using the .iso, I could do an upgrade with it. I don't care about losing the license from Windows 7 because it's no longer supported, it wouldn't matter.
OK, that plan sounds like it would work. You would want to use the OEM disc on the new motherboard only.
You would just want to make sure you have a backup of any files or documents you want to save before the OEM install, just in case.
The drive is bare, it's my new WD 500GB SSD.
I was thinking of any files or data that you added or created after your initial Windows 10 installation that might need to be saved before any re-install.
This would give you the opportunity to have fun adjusting the settings to your liking and/or trying out any shells to make Windows 10 work or look like other Windows versions. That will probably take longer than the Windows install process.
