Use them , Only as back ups.
Plug them in, backup what I want to save, Use Safely remove and disconnect them.
Thanks for the info. Didn't find anything regarding 8t's . I have used a 5tb external for storage with success. So the 8tb which is on sale right now, would be ok as long as I use it for storage & occasional access ?
I usually check the reviews on Newegg.com for the model of drive under consideration.
If you are using the drive to boot from, you need to make sure that the motherboard you are going to use it on and the OS you want to use can be set up to support an 8TB partition, or set it up with a 2TB or less boot partition. For data storage, you just need to be able to access and format the drive using the partition(s) you want.
What is the make/model of the drive you're looking at?
Remember that you should have your data in at least TWO separate drives/locations. Merely putting data on an external is not a backup if it is your only copy.
The Drive I'm interested in is the Western digital Easy-store 8TB external HD. It's on sale at Bestbuy for $159. I just want to use it to store movies, video & music. etc. I dont wish to partition it unless it would be necessary ??
That drive should be fine. I think WD is using the Red series drives in their externals now.
If you mean splitting the drive into multiple partitions, that's not necessary.Quote:
