Google Earth

What ho one and all,

Not sure if this is a software or OS issue but, ................

Apart from the fact that I am running out of OS space (XP Pro on 60 gb, 10 gb free) and need to fix that, I was checking what is occupying so much space.

Surprised to find in DC:\Documents and Settings\Rex\Local Settings\Application Data, there is a Google folder occupying almost 2gb. Within that folder, there is Google earth which is the culprit.

I occasionally use GE but didn't know the program took so much space. I assume that it is not wise to delete it,but is it something that grows with time and the solution is to reinstall?

That's the Google Earth cache. Reinstalling won't clear the cache. Try clearing out the cache and disabling 3D imagery.

Being a Luddite, I am still on GE 6.1 and the 3D tab has no disable option. Would it be advisable to remove GE and install whatever is the latest version?

Is it helpful to point out that the file in question is listed as GoodleEarth.dat.

I'd probably go for the latest version possible.

If you don't use it that often and are desperate for space, then I'd get rid of it completely.

Thanks. My version does not have a 'do not display 3D option. But clearing the cache appears to have regained a large section of HDD space.
