Changing Group policy

I have had more issues installing AnyMeeting and despite any help from their support, the most I could get was to a point where i got an error message about a Group Policy. So i was told that if i can edit that to grant the access (or whatever Group policy does) to install AnyMeeting, then it should install.

Now, my question is... how the heck do i do that?
I have never set that. I had Windows 7 Professional reinstalled just weeks ago, so i have no idea how or wher that was set or how i can reset it or edit it?

You need to be more specific about what Group Policy is asking for. There are dozens of Group Policy settings.

Are you on a domain or is it a standalone PC? I'm assuming you are using an Administrator account to install the program.

If it's a standalone PC, you can run gpedit.msc or go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy
Then you would need to find the exact setting the program is asking for.

When trying to install the application on my PC, i get this error message:
"This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator."

So , i am not sure WHAT group policy it is refering to.

I have a standalone computer, that has been set in a home network.
As whether i am using Administrator account, honestly, i don't know since i am the only one using the computer.

I'll look at gpedit.msc, and see if something is jumping to me. I am not even sure how it was set or how.

That error message may not actually be a problem with Group Policy.
Did your system have a virus or malware infection? Have you done a scan recently?
If not, you should scan your system with Malwarebytes.

Go to Control Panel > User Accounts
If you are an administrator, it will say "Administrator" under your username

If you open gpedit, you can check
Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Software Restriction Policies
Normally, there shouldn't be any policies defined.

No, i didn't check, however, i had just reinstalled Windows a couple weeks ago, so that is not something i would expect. I will still check though.

What antivirus are you using?

If Malwarebytes (MBAM) finds anything, you probably want to start a new thread in the ICU. Make sure to keep your MBAM logs also.

It's possible to reset the Local Security Policy to the default, but that would also do things like reset your account password. Run the AV and MBAM scans first.

I had MBAM and Windows Security Essential. When i had issues with AnyMeeting, their tech support said it might have been my firewall or my anti-virus. So, i deactivated Windows Security Essential and since i could not figure out how to deactivate MBAM, i deleted it. Tried to install the program and it still didn't work. I added rules to the firewall. Tried to install the program. Still no luck.

Currently scanning with MBAM. Nothing found so far. I guess i'll have to let it go through the night.

MBAM scan completed. Nothing detected.
Doing the Windows Security Essential now.

Quick scan of WSE found nothing either.
All clean!

You can also check Application Control Policies > AppLocker (below Software Restriction Policies).
There shouldn't be anything in there either.

In the AppLocker, all the rules are showing 0. Nothing there.

That is really strange. Did you right-click on the installer file and "run as administrator"?

You can try resetting the security policy, but like I said, it will reset/expire you password. Make a System Restore point first.

Another thing you could try would be to enable the hidden Administrator account, and try installing when logged in to that account.

I tried running it as myself (with an administrator account) and right-click and Run as Administrator. Same result. Same error message.

If i don't have a password to log in the account, what would a reset do or affect?

Trying to follow the instructions in the link you gave but the downloadable file is non-existant.

but it seems that the owner of the file should be TrustedInstaller, but it is not. It was my own account, as administrator. Since it didn't work, i tried to change it to the User_2 that had the file in. Still no result. I still get the exact same error message when trying to run the .exe file.

That is my next step. However, if i am able to install this program on an admin account, will i have to run the program from that account only?
