Understanding SMART
What ho one and all,
Just playing around with the HDD SMART info and trying to understand it.
Based upon the attachment, what is the difference between the two Power On Count figures. Since I have not replaced the HDD for a number of years, 83 is total b.s. In that case, what does it mean.

i have been trying to Google the answer, but am none the wiser.
Toodle pip and thanks,
Rex

I would click on the HELP button in the app.
Maybe the 83 hours is how long it's been on since the last shutdown?

The program is Crystal Disk Info and the Help is not exactly useful. See the attachment!

Do you shut the machine down often or has it been up and running 100 hours since the last time you shut down?
-
Current say you have not shutdown for 100 hours to me.
-
Never been running for 100 hours. Certainly gets shut down every night and is not running all day either. So have no idea what the 100 hours implies.

The first (top) number, 1831 hours is the total number of hours the drive has been powered on.
The second number is something your display software for the S.M.A.R.T. data is calculating. Unless you can find the documentation for that particular software, that number (100) is likely meaningless.
