[RESOLVED] PCIe

I am planning to get a UHD (4K) monitor and a new graphic card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 970).

My current motherboard only has a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot. The new graphic card is a PCIe 3.0 x16.

Will I be able to display at 4K resolution? Of course, the downside is not being able to experience the full benefits of the PCIe 3.0. What would be the side effects?

Is it a waste of money to setup like this or should I build a new computer to accommodate this 4K setup? Basing from my research, I should be OK with minimal lost. I just need a confirmation on this.

You'll be fine with a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot.

NP. You should add an SSD to that list, if you don't have one already. It makes a HUGE difference over a regular Hard Drive.

Yes, I have been on a SSD for years now. I find SSD performance to be much better and more reliable than two regular hard drives on RAID 0.

Cool. Ya, it's hard to go back once you've used an SSD. I'd compare it to the jump from dialup to cable modem. :cool:
