Eating Ink
What ho one and all,
My 'acquired' MP640 printer seems to go through ink cartridges like they are going out of fashion. I don't use the printer so often, and when I do, it is usually to proof A4 colour images.
What is the opinion on DIY refilling? Is it worth doing it? Presumably, apart from the obvious (ink, syringe, etc) I would also need a chip resetting tool? Are some inks better than others or are they all pretty much alike?
All comments and opinions will be appreciated.
Toodle pip and thanks

I don't know about refilling ink cartridges, especially Canon's. I always just used generic ink in my color printers after warranty runs out, it doesn't matter. However, since you're on the otherside of the pond, I wouldn't even know where to tell you to go to find generic ink cartridges. Here they call them remanufactured ink cartridges. They're the same as the original cartridge but the company you buy from refills them and they're pretty cheap compared to original cartridges. I bought mine from inkjet123.

Photolady,
Thanks; I have been using the refilled and certainly do not have any issues except the price. And although I am 'sort of' buying in bulk, it is surprising how quickly one colour is used and before I know it, I have used all one colour but still have 4 or 5 of the others.
Just bugs me, so though about filling myself.

It bugged me too so I quit using color printers and went laser. Too expensive to print the at home, and with several other options at my disposal, I do that now instead of the costly home printing.

Epson has a new line of printers that might interest you:

I dumped ink-jet printers long ago for a variety of reasons. I have lasers for B&W and color now. A dye-sub printer for photos is on my wish list.
