[RESOLVED] What is Conduit?
I just had an interesting and frightening experience with an Avast tech rep. I had just installed their SecureLine software and it slowed my internet speeds to a crawl (under 3Mbps, when I normally get 50MBps without the connection). He talked me into letting him do a diagnosis of my PC and showed me that I have a filed labeled Conduit, which he claimed was spyware from the Far East which has been monitoring everything I do on this particular PC. Not sure where this came from as I didn't deliberately download it. He also told me that I have too many spyware detectors installed which he claimed acted like virus protection and interfered with the free version of Avast that I normally use, which he "showed" me was a damaged install. These included (an old AVG file, which I thought should have been uninstalled when I switched to Avast, CCleaner, Malwarebytes, McAffee Security Scan, Modem Diagnostic Tool, Norton Security Scan, SuperAnti-Spyware, and probably a couple of others. Of course, he said they could fix all these problems for $179/yr and then did a re-install of Avast with something called Dropbox included. I declined his offer, but his comments about Conduit, in particular, have me worried. He claimed if I tried to delete the file, it would send an alert to those that installed it and they would immediately start making purchases with the credit card information they had gleaned from their spying. I trust the people on this board way more than this tech so I am hoping for some information about these issues
