XP Hack

The information is accurate. I have not tried it.

I have XP with that 'hack' running in a VM and updates are still coming in.

I haven't installed mine yet. Do you have the system problems that MS claims will happen?

Which problems? (I rarely fire up XP any more).

In the article in PCWorld, MS says that using the hack will cause system problems, but we can't trust them. But if you rarely use XP any more, you're not the one I should ask. (There's a reason why I can't update to Win 7.)

That said, I've been using it since yesterday afternoon just to see if I could spot any problems. And so far, so good. In fact I'm using it right now. (Only because I trust VirtualDr not to infect my XP).

It's the 32-bit version of Windows XP Pro (in a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit "XP mode" window) running the "XP Hack" with all available 317 Windows updates, as well as running the latest versions of the following: CCleaner, MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (paid version), Microsoft Security Essentials, Secunia PSI, SpywareBlaster and WinPatrol.

I have a similar setup but I'm running the original XP Pro, not Win 7 XP Mode.

I thought Spyware Blaster had become obsolete, but I just installed it again. The installation was confusing. First they offered the paid version with auto updates, and I said no, then they offered auto updates on the unpaid version if I read the EULA. I just left it.

And I didn't think MSE still supports XP, so I use BitDefender on this comp, Avast on the other one.

I trust both you and Vdr, but might not have problems right away.

I don't know if it should be in Security or stay here in XP. Since it is about XP though, I'd probably just leave it here. But, that's just my opinion. What do you think Jim and JDC?

I would be inclined to leave it in the XP forum, since it is specifically about XP (only) security, and would probably be more easily found where it is now.

And since you be the boss... ;) :)
