Hi Everyone!
I am trying to connect with a friends computer to help him with a program installation problem.
I believe I followed all instructions from the Microsoft website.
When I tried, I got this.

could someone please translate this. I will say that I just created a password for my computer this morning, so it is not expired.

You should be doing Remote Desktop Assistance, not Remote Desktop Connection.

You should try Teamviewer instead. It's way easier. It's free too.
Install the regular Teamviewer client on your computer. Have your friend download the "quick support" version. All he has to do is run the .exe and tell you the codes that appear. Enter it on your computer and that's about it.

Ok. Good luck. If you still can't get Remote Assistance to work, you have an alternative. :)
Dave: If Remote Desktop doesn't work right away (like less than 5 minutes) run, don't walk to something else. For personal use, as Midknyte said, the absolute best and safest means is Teamviewer. It's free and takes no more than a couple of minutes to get up and running. If you have a good internet connection on both ends of the connection, it works like a dream! I cannot recommend it any higher!
*** The Quick Support version Midknyte mentions is what I have my family members use. It does NOT permanently install itself and when they close it, it won't run again until THEY execute the file. On my end, I use the PortableApps full version of Teamviewer. That way, I'm not permanently installing anything either.

Oh, one other thought. Since Teamviewer is giving the personal use of the program away for free, they do throw a little unobtrusive ad up when you close the program. Just make sure you tell your remote assisted person to cancel out of that screen (to keep from bringing up a purchase screen.)
Yup. Teamviewer is way easier to use.
There is a portable version on the Teamviewer download site too. I think PortableApps just repackages it for their flash drive app menu. Either one is fine.
