OS errors/ problems ?
Hello,
I am trying to get my little daughter's computer up and running again.
She has downloaded so many "free" programs, that she heavily infected it with malware. Broni has spent alot of time helping me clean it up, over in the Intensive Care section.
It still has many issues, and he asked me to post here.
When I start and run the computer in "Normal Mode', any program, or browser, or even opening a folder, causes what ever the application/ program/ function to become "not responding". Closing the app and hitting "end now" nor using task manager closes the program. The computer freezes up, no matter how long I wait.
The only way this computer functions, is in safe mode with networking, as I am using it right now.
Any help... please ??

XP's No-Reformat, Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option - by Fred Langa shows you how to completely rebuild, repair, or refresh an existing XP installation without losing data, and without having to reinstall user software, reformat, or otherwise destructively alter the setup.

I would also run a hard drive and memory diag. You need to find out what brand your HD is first.
Download UBCD5 from the link in my signature and burn the iso to a CD. If you don't know how to properly burn .iso images, read these:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/14183...age-to-a-disc/
http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm
For HD, run the manufacturer's diags (the extended or long test). For memory, run Memtest86+. You should get ZERO errors from both. If not, there is probably a hardware issue.

Yes, good idea. Run those two diags first before fiddling around with software.

SpywareDr, does this work, have you tried it or know someone that has? I was getting ready to do a clean install on my XP, and when I seen this, I thought I would give it a try. What do you think?

It's worked for me, more than once. I've been following Fred Langa for many years.

Thanks, I am going to give it a try. Much appreciated...

You're welcome. Got my fingers crossed. :)

Just wanted to let you know SpywareDr, it worked for me just fine.
Thanks so much, saved me from a clean install......
