I want my Win98 Emachine back !!!
MAXXIMILIAN'S
maxx,
the laptop will be used dial up and behind a dsl connection thru wingate (just a client). does this pose any problems.
You can try , it will not harm , you can always uninstall . I'm using DSL on HP desktop , I tried a lot of different firewalls , but for some reason none of them were working . My system was slow and I could hardly open any web site .
But , hey , give it a try , if it will work , then you will run secure and bulletproof .
What OS do you have on it : ME ,or 2000 ?

Sorry homer,
I am running 98se. I do have a disc thaqt could put me on it but like 98 better
Hey , glad to hear .98 cool , I just figured it out , ME or 2000 because you said "new baby" , now they go with either ME or for big bucks you can get 2000 .
So you can get :
Irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/english.htm
TweakUI http://www.windows-help.net/windows98/tweakui2000.shtml
Inoculate IT , if you have on a floppy , it is not free any more .
You can get AD-Aware 4.6 , you have to search an internet for it . 5.2 is down and you may get into problems with it .
Also WinAmp if you like to listen to the music.

any one else have little (or big) aps or programs on the 'puters that help out. Anything such as musicmatch, or I swear by Nortons or Mcafee or this hides my files...
Irfanview without a doubt. When I need a viewer on the road, and you will, it's fast, small size and more. http://www.ryansimmons.com/users/irfanview/

Coops.......I CANNOT exist in cyberworld without a copy of Nortons Utilities 2001....I run 'System Check' everyday when I boot up, and 'Speed Disk' every 2 or 3 days. For me and mine, it is a 'computer-health imperative'!!!
P.S. I can usually find old/odd downloads such as 'Homer' suggested here: http://www.rocketdownload.com/

Nothing is 'idiot-proof'.....they always come out with better idiots.
I'd say a really good & fast image viewing program would be an asset. Like:

Just thought of another I use all the time, the Google Toolbar for IE. It's great to be able to search and use the built in tools instantly especially on the road. http://toolbar.google.com/

Since many people are agreeable w/ Irfan_View, may I suggest you take a look at:

this registry cleaner is a must (Regclean)
http://www.jv16.org/
And I've found Fixit utilities to be just as effective as Norton sys works. It's cheaper, smaller, faster and the AV program (pc-cillin) is very good...

nonboxer,
i have a copy of norton 2000 that i haven't pu on it yet as it is running mcafee at the moment. Is there a big diff between 2000 and 2001?
fink,
i used fix-it at one time as well and liked it but had forgotten about it. Thats for the memory bump.
I dl'ed irfanview last night and only played a bit with it but it looks like a keeper.
keep 'em comin'
Hiya Coops,
Take a look at this site, it has all the popular downloads on one page for easy location and downloading:
