Java 7 Update 45

Got the notice that Update 45 was available and installed it.
Then I could not get the time from http://nist.time.gov or from http://www.time.gov (of course with my time zone at the end of each URL). I could reach the sites but in place of the time was a message "One moment please..." which runs indefinitely.
I ran a System Restore back to Update 40. The clocks work again.
Does any one else have this problem or a fix for Update 45?

As far as I know this is probably the only use I make of Java, but I do like having an accurate time check. Also I have my PC's Date and Time linked to one of the Government clock sites and want that to function--although I did not check whether that was also disabled when Update 45 was installed.

Windows Date and Time work fine without Java. And so does this NIST Time Widget.

SpywareDr--Thanks for the reply. What update version of Java 7 are you now running? Did you try to access the Government time sites?

The link to the widget that you gave does not work properly for me. I can reach the site but display of time gets stuck at "Synchronizing". However this link to the widget does work

1) I'm no longer running Java on any Wintel device.

2) Yes, "time.nist.gov", "time-a.nist.gov" and "time-a.nist.gov" are all working fine from within Windows 7's "Internet Time Settings" > Server > {time-server} > Update now.

3) The NIST Time Widget requires shockwave-flash.

SpywareDr--Interesting. I had Shockwave Player on my PC, but not the latest version. Installed the latest version and now your link to the Time Widget works.

Installing Java 7 Update 45 on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 had absolutely NO effect on being able to get Date and Time updates from any of the available ___.time.gov servers, (or time.windows.com for that matter).

Thanks for testing Java 7 Update 45 on the time.gov sites.
Now I need a fix for my Java 7 Update 45 since all I get is "One moment please..." where the time should appear . As mentioned, the time.gov sites work fine with Update 40 installed.

Then it must be some combination of the update and some other item(s) you're running that is causing the strange behavior.

Do the ____.time.gov sites work okay, with Java 7 Update 45 installed in Safe mode with Networking?

What happens if you completely uninstall Java?

Do the sites work in Safe mode with Networking with Update 45 . I am pretty sure I tried Safe Mode when I had Update 45 installed.
If Java is completely uninstalled I can reach the time sites but the clock window just stays green--no time and no message. I cannot remember if the sun map works or not.

I emailed [email protected] about this and here is their response in part
" systems running Java are getting more and more strict, so we we are working on moving to a non-java page."
Interesting and kind of them to respond.
